Nice chat with Mike Leach on a number of topics recently, and the new Washington State head football coach still thinks Garrett Gilbert can have a great college career at SMU after a 7-7 record with the Longhorns.
"If he gets his confidence back, I think he'll be really good," Leach says of the former Texas quarterback. "I still believe in Garrett Gilbert. He became a lightning rod for Texas' lack of success. Fans thought it was all his fault.
"That's baloney. They lost a ton of talent, and just because they had orange jerseys on doesn't mean they were as good as the players who left. Gilbert got thrown to the wolves and started pressing. I'd be proud to have Garrett Gilbert on my team."
Considering he's still enrolled at UT, not on the SMU roster and technically a "free agent", shouldn't this be a recruiting violation? Especially the last part? Coaches can't comment on prospects and although he's not in HS, he's a prospect, and technically could still be swayed.

If he looks at who has had the most productive offenses then we could be in trouble. The Air Raid would be easier to learn than the run and shoot because the Air Raid is closer to the spread offense he ran at Lake Travis than the run and shoot.

Is there any history between Jones and Leech? The only thing I can remember seeing is an off-hand comment by Jones that Leech stealing his stuff is why he doesn't allow other coaches in practice any more. Of course, Reinebold tweeted all the time about coaches from other programs at practice so maybe that is meaningless.
