This event has nothing to do with SMU. Any attempt to connect it is a waste of time.

yeah but Stallion will find a way to bash SMU even via a TCU scandal.
if this was at SMU....Stallion would be screaming for June's head.
but since it's "somebody else" Stallion wants to talk about how
bad drugs were at SMU back 25 years ago when he went there.
ya catch the pattern?
For Stallion....it was/is always worse at SMU.
And you've got the usual apologists for everybody else
that want to hammer SMU about anything & everything
but when a HUGE TCU SCANDAL happens
well lets try to tie it some-how-some-way to SMU
plus when it's someone else ...
well it's time to get all serious....
suddenly it's not funny to make jokes....
but if it was June and/or SMU players the same apologists
would be calling June the head drug dealer.....blah blah
what i find puzzling is why these people that obviously
can basically "see no wrong everywhere else"...
but see "everything wrong at SMU" are even here.

Re: TCU problems = bad for SMU
looking at killer frogs.com, they are [deleted] about how much other schools, particularly us, are talking about this. are they really surprised?

Re: TCU problems = bad for SMU
Is this whole thing really a surprise? Look at the head of their football program. Fatterson is all about winning and nothing else. He blames players, asst coaches, refs, etc after loses. He treats people like [deleted] constantly. His whole persona screams "do what ever the hell you want as long as you win". Players, kids, employees all take their que from the head guy. Based on what we have all observed and know of Fatterson this should come as no surprise and tcu has no one to blame but him. June on the other hand runs a completely different program. I'm not talking X's and O's, I'm talking behind the scenes and off the field. He tries to recruit and build quality people and holds his team to a much higher standard.

Stallion wrote:SMU is doing EXACTLY what TCU is doing-you are misinformed. If anything TCU has had a much higher graduation rate in recent years and recruits less non-qualifiers. 24 Hours ago TCU's reputation was as Clean as any in the Country. See Sports Illustrated investigative article done last year on criminal arrest records of Top 30 teams. TCU was the only one with none
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/w ... index.html
Plus there is a common misconception that Drugs are a minority/thug issue. In fact, SMU and now TCU have had major problems from kids with relatively upper class backgrounds. So simply having higher academic standards even if it were true would be missing the point. SMU's well publized drug problems/deaths have been students from wealthy backgrounds
Again, I'm referring to institutional philosophies to football. Who is paying for our new head coach?? tcu is football first. If you don't get that, then like I said, we'll just agree to disagree. The salary for our football coach, last time I checked, was funded by the CoC. tcu, on the other hand, believes everything is driven by football. I think it's obvious that this is not the case for us. Look at how they market and how they present themselves. It's not about academics, it's about the campus experience linked primarily to football. It's helped them no doubt, but we do have different philosophies. Even though we have different philosophies, that doesn't mean we don't invest in it because we obviously do, but it's not our one top priority.
Yes, their endowment is close to ours, but our academic programs are vastly superior. If you like data, then do a little bit of research and you'll notice within one second that the difference in academic programs are night and day. That is not the case at SMU because we DO have strong academic programs to stand by. We have top nationally recognized programs. Our liberal arts program is much better. Our business school is superior. We have a top law school, and we actually have an engineering school. Their two programs for engineering are a joke.
I mention this because it is fundamental to understand that we have a different standing. And the fact I live in New York doesn't make me any less knowledgeable about what I believe the strengths of our school to be vis-a-vis other schools (within the area or even nationally).
If you live in Dallas then maybe you should take advantage of that logistical fact and get to learn more about our academic programs so that you actually become somewhat informed. If proximity is a factor for you, then you should have no excuse.

Re: TCU problems = bad for SMU
TCU has drug problems...well we're probably worse...we were worse...probably still are just as bad...TCU is still better than us...I feel sorry for them...they don't deserve criticism...it's a national epidemic after-all...

stallion is bailing the frogs out of jail as we speak, and always ready to defend them and any other team in the country, but if it was S.M.U , he would no doubt throw away the key.

Re: TCU problems = bad for SMU
"TCU is dirty in more ways than one". You are right, THCU football has been a rogue program for probably quite some time now. I have been predicting a scandal regarding frog football for a number of years. You just knew something sinister was going on there. Scandals like this take on a life of their own and the tentacles become far reaching. Who knows what other improprieties are going to be discovered as thing takes off. Depending on what else comes out, this could devastate that program for years, especially since they were going to getting their asses handed to them in the big 12 anyway. What a shame...NOT!jkflamebo wrote:I agree with last post. No way in hell is this bad for SMU. TCU is dirty in more ways than one. I hope they are ready for their [deleted] pounding next year.

Well it could be used to help recruiting, if only we had coaches who were into that kind of thing....sigh

SMU owns the Fraternity Houses, and has been diligent in enforcement.
Good article in today's DMN.

Looks like TCU was asleep at the wheel for a while.
