Big East Helmets
Nike has tried to jack up Bama's uniform twice. Small tweaks are no big deal, however year before last we agreed to wear one of their "power ranger" pro combat uniforms and their concept presentations were rejected twice by Bama's athletic department. They were under the delusive impression that the Bama Nation would accept what ever they presented. Some feathers got ruffled at Nike after the event. Now that black has faded in popularity and been replaced with gun metal gray/silver expect tons of that on the field next year. Both Alabama and SMU have iconic uniforms (SMU's helmet for sure - it is one of the best in all of football) and only need to be tweaked. While typical 18 year old recruits love trendy and flashy, and they should be made happy to some extent, remember SMU nation never trust a green black yellow silver grey irredessant Nike duck carrying swatches of colors not our own.
By the way I'm in Tuscaloosa visiting and am wearing a Compass Bowl shirt and twice have heard, "glad you guys are back" and even a "Pony Up."

The Doak Walker throw back uniform is a surefire attention-getter in the classic sense. This needs to happen. Fans, players, recruits, media would love it.

It's impossible to not like anything that is associated with the great Doak Walker. He is the definition of class, and I'm sure glad he was one of ours.

Even as interesting as the concept is, it will never work because attempting to replicate the canvas pants of old uniforms just does not look good in the modern uniform fabrics.
Just take a look at the Packers and Bears throwbacks in the NFL over the years.
If Nike does anything more than templates for SMU, which I still highly doubt, it will most likely be a modern look.

True. Believe me - I would love to see a real classic looking SMU throwback like the one suggested for a game or two.
But I can't imagine Nike ever putting any effort into it. I could see something similar with white pants though. They like to do stuff that isn't really classic and try to sell it as classic.
Maybe we will be surprised and Nike will prove us all wrong - but I'll still believe it when I see it.

Why don't we request (demand) it from them? After - all, we're the customer - I think?
I guess it's hard to tell in college football what's what anymore???

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Actually with Nike the players play for Team Nike and not their school anymore. It's disgusting.

Very good point. I stand corrected then.
