...this IS entertaining! [deleted] about who knows what, who has seen who play, what % of players we recruited SUCK, what % can't play, why Rivals does this and that, smack mouth talk about who is right / wrong, little pissy kid fights about EVERYTHING involving SMU recruiting....man, WE are the ones who SUCK...I have NEVER seen anything like this, but then again, this is SMU, and we quite haven't figured much out yet..jeeezz....long live Mike Richarson...what star rating was he?????

you are right Hix. I am excited for the future and the sunshine should not pay any attnetion to the glass is 2/3 empty "gloomers".

I don't follow recruiting the way so many on this board do, but I do know I like the fact that Bennett seems to be recruiting depth at positions where it is very much needed. We will see in the fall whether any of these incoming guys can help SMU win more games next year.

Recruiting really has become an interesting process. Obviously the "tryout" camps that everyone hosts go a long ways towards kids getting early offers and making early commitments, but there are obviously several players out there who are capable of playing at the !-A level who don't go to camps or are late bloomers, etc... The key for programs like SMU is how well our coaching staff does at finding guys who have been overlooked by the big boys. I guess we will know in the next couple of years how good a job Bennett and his staff have done.

Like I said "YOU GOTTA PLAY THE GAME" Who knows who'll be on the field come Sept. when I can't believe the hype behind recruiting services,or fans getting caught up in it.

I see the board today is full of naysayers for the most part lamenting the quality of this recruiting class and demanding Bennett and his staff outrecruit UTEP, TCU, Houston, Baylor, TCU, Tulane & Rice. How is it that anyone in their right mind believes we should somehow be "entitiled" to better recruits than those schools? Let's see...other than Rice, each and every one of those schools has been to a bowl game more recently than SMU and they have all enjoyed more wins than we have since SMU's return from the death penalty. All of them except Rice enjoy far more fan support than SMU (isn't it nice to be appreciated for your hard work by someone other than your parents?). With so very few "fans" and seemingly a good number of chronic complainers bashing even our best players, we should be thankful anyone is willing to sign to play for dear old SMU.

When SMU shows it can win games and compete with it's conference foes every Saturday, things will get better. Call me a sunshiner, but watching the job Bennett is doing filling the 2 deep on both the OL & DL, where the process of winning games starts...gives me hope that we are not far from competing again. I'd like to predict better results in 2005, but I really think we will see the difference Bennett and his staff will make in 2006, when the majority of our 2 deep will be filled with upperclass players. By that time, if we have Fr and RS FR on the field, it will be because they are terrific players.

Keep the faith, sunshiners...and the rest of you need to get a grip and deal with the reality of our situation.
