Bryce Drew plays Mississippi State

Postby Mitch McConnell » Thu Mar 29, 2012 10:52 am

It happens everywhere, folks. It's a pastime of the sport.

Per ESPN
Bryce Drew will remain as coach at Valparaiso after agreeing to a multiyear extension, the school announced Wednesday.

"Valparaiso University is committed to building a high-quality, competitive basketball program," university president Mark A. Heckler said. "Bryce Drew has proven himself to be a leader of character and integrity, dedicated to upholding the University's values while striving for success, both on and off the basketball court. Coach Drew represents college basketball as it should be, and we proudly claim him as a Valpo alumnus who lives out our mission of leadership and service."

Drew had interviewed at Mississippi State, sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday. Sources also said Drew backed out of a scheduled interview with Tulsa on Tuesday.

"I am very appreciative and thankful for the opportunity to continue coaching at Valparaiso University," Drew said. "We are blessed at Valpo to have outstanding vision and leadership from President Heckler and (athletic director) Mark LaBarbera. I am very excited to get back on the court with our team and starting to prepare for next season."

Along with Drew, reports have indicated Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne is among the top candidates to replace longtime coach Rick Stansbury at Mississippi State. The school interviewed Murray State's Steve Prohm last week. Murray State announced Monday that Prohm had signed a one-year contract extension and been given a pay raise. Bulldogs officials also have spoken with Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Rob Jeter, who is not expected to get the job.

That's very different, cause he wasn't offered either place. Also, his number is still so low, any high major can gobble him up, any time they want. Just has to be the right situation for him

So MSU is now going to go with Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne? A strong SEC school to go with an assistant?
