Is that accurate?-Co-Offensive Coordinator?

I'm not surprised-but the SMU press release didn't say he was a Co-Offensive Coordinator

No
Re: Kate article on Jason Phillips
On the video after practice, Kate asks if Jason is the Co-Offensive Coord., he stutters and says something along the lines of "Well, we all have titles to help out with our resumes, I'll still be calling the plays"........
He did say earlier before that question that they usually change up about 15% of the plays and that Phillips will be a big part of that.

Re: Kate article on Jason Phillips
They should change more than 15% of the plays, this year.
Time to re-vamp this run and shoot blanks offense.

I would like to see us implement more of a spread like Houston has had over the past few years. I know it will never happen with June's RNS background, but I liked their quick hurry up offense and it was a lot more unpredictable.
Re: Kate article on Jason Phillips
Agree with that. Hate it when the QB runs to the sideline every play.
When will I start feeling stimulated??

A big difference between SMU and Houston is that SMU focuses more on blocking Backs while Houston looks for home run hitters at RB as they do at every skill position. Haven't seen many possession receivers recruited at UH while at SMU they are all over the Roster

While UH may not emphasize as much as SMU, we've definitely had our share of them. Bryce Beall wasn't a classic power runner, but he definitely isn't the big speedster.
As for possession receivers, we usually have one who runs that underneath route. This year Justin Johnson, a converted FB, played that role and was the 3rd leading receiver on the team with 87 receptions for 1229 yards. He was almost always good for an 8 yard catch regardless of down. He had a monster game against PSU with 12 catches for 148 yards.
I think they just don't get the recognition that guys like Sims, Edwards, and Carrier get because they don't have the big highlight plays.
Regarding OC titles, those have become so diluted and the roles so muddled. For example, last year Jason Phillips was OC and Kliff Kingsbury was co-OC. But Kingsbury called the plays. Kingsbury was even nominated for national OC of the year. Odd since he wasn't even OC.
There's even the assistant head coach title. What's that? Is that above, below, or equal to a coordinator? Maybe being assistant head coach helped our new head coach get his job because he'd never been an OC or DC, although he was special teams coordinator.

Completely agree with this!

If and when JJ eventually leaves; I hope JP is still around, and gets the opportunity to become the next SMU Head Football Coach.

Hopefully, he'll make it 'til December 21... not much happening after that.
