Brown-What nobody is talking about

Postby Dwan » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:35 am

When I was at SMU in the mid 90s, there was a great professor in the business school who was a diehard basketball fan. He always said that one day, when we were really bored he would tell us the Larry Johnson and SMU story. We all know the story, but before he went back to talking about economics, he said, " and SMU Athletics and our men's basketball program in particular would be much different today had Larry Johnson played at SMU......we would be going to the big 12 and you guys would all be basketball fans." While I'm sure some will debate weather said professor was right or not, his point was true 15 years ago and even more true today. In basketball, one or two players can make a difference and that is more pronounced today than ever. Today, people revise their top 25 for the following season after signing day. With that in mind, Larry Brown, coupled with this rumored staff puts us in a position to get one or two players that can change the program. I don't think anybody in their right mind can debate that a player or two can change a program in basketball. It is funny to me to read these articles about how Larry Brown can't recruit because players assume he could leave after a year or two.....there is not one elite high school player in the nation who in his mind is planning on being in college for more that two years. I think we could easily land a five star one and done or two who before going to the nba want to play for an nba legend.

this is very true - they think they will be MAYBE in school two yrs - and most think its just a one year stint until the NBA comes calling. by the way - Brown should bill himself as the pied piper for NBA - he knows everytone and can "place" these guys in a year or two - make that our strength. He should out-wordly say we arent where we want to be unless we are losing three a year to the NBA

i know it's Kentucky, and they have a basketball tradition there, but in 3 years, Calipari has won a championship and all of his starters from this year are going into the League.

(actually the thing nobody is talking about is that Brown left both College Programs with issues that led to probation. ssh!)

So did Doherty...maybe at least this time we'll be left with probation and a decent number of wins.

if we have to vacate wins after our national championship season, I think we'd all be ok with that.

If we can't get Larry Brown, Pat Summit is available.

let's get this deal done 1st...then we can start talking about what father (future [deleted]'t coach?) and stud son Brown will lure to SMU as the Pied Piper recruit who will help to immediately turn this program around. At age 71, no time to waste in building the program. Gotta be ready to compete in the Big East
