Of all the criticisms made of LB, no one has denied that he is a great teacher. It seems to me that's what we need from him. Someone who can teach our players. I've hated watching the product on the court these last few years.
Many of LB's critics lampoon him bouncing from place to place. I understand that. But I did some research, and one of the NYT's sports guys did an analysis in 2009 and discovered that the average tenure for a BCS basketball coach is 4.95 years with a median of 3 years. If LB lasts 2-3 years, then I'm okay with that. Here's the link:
http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/06/the-college-years-of-a-coach/#. Really, how many great players expect to play at a university for 4 years these days?
IF we get the assistants that are being talked about, then those guys can hit the road and recruit. Bring the kids to Dallas and let LB seal the deal with recruits.
Is LB a perfect coach? No. Was he our top pick? No. Is he an improvement from Doh? Yes. Can these assistants raise the level of recruits and product on the court? I think so.
No pick that Orsini made would please everyone. Given our program's shortcomings that this coaching search made painfully obvious, I welcome someone with the pedigree of LB as our new coach.
