Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverLet's not go all corporate party line already, guys. We all love the demeanor and fire Brown is bringing from stem to stern. I'm all for it, and have been the loudest guy clamoring for Frogs head for years. That said, some of you are drinking the kool-aid, if you don't think there is a right way & wrong way to do some of this stuff. Brown deserves a world of credit for taking this on, but he messed up some w/the way he let these kids go.
No big deal, everyone will get over it, but force-outs require massaging, not a single sit down, and you're not good enough to play for me. One thing to be a decisive CEO, another to be attila the hun. There is most definitely a place for finesse in these situations. Again, by all means, cut everyone, just do it over the period of some time, have multiple sit downs etc. Larry set himself up for criticism w/this. Heck, Orsini had to release a pack of lies statement to back up the blood-letting. This has nothing to do w/the open period, or the staff needing ships before boo Williams this weekend, or that the search took too long. It was just poorly handled for college. I've seen a million kids cut in my day, never seen 4 in one day, and told the way they were. It was the ritual execution of student athletes on a national stage. It was sorta ugly. Enough said Now, replace them w/someone better
Orsini statement re: roster turnoverI feel for the kids, and I am very surprised by the cutting of Leslee, with his physical frame I thought him a keeper, but I trust Larry Brown.
I will reserve my opinion of how the matter was handled until we see how it plays out. I know nothing of the way this all works but perhaps LB wanted the players he wishes to keep to know right now that they won't be cut, and that they should expect to be playing with other players next year in a bid to keep them. Maybe the kids who are cut will have scholarships by next week, who knows, The fact that there is national media attention is a price of having LB as our coach. Every kid in the US now knows we aren't horsing around... --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?ljovzs Mustangs Abu!
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverThe bar has offically been raised. There's no easy way to cut players without hurting feelings and pride. It's a business and LB has been brought in to improve our team... NOW. Love how Samp played the game. But everyone he cut, including Smith, were not going to be significant contributors. This time next year, you won't recognize many names/faces on this team.
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverCould have also happened so quickly because school is out in the next two weeks.
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnover
The problem I see with what you are saying is the time element. The coaches were out this week-end recruiting not just for 2013 but for 2012 as well. How could they offer anyone for 2012 unless some ships were opened up? I just don't see how LB had the time to do all the massaging and multiple meetings etc. you talked about before he let them go. Just think it was a unique situation that didn't have a good solution. He used the one he thought was best. When will I start feeling stimulated??
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverHoopin max you are dead wrong this time and you are talking out of both sides of your mouth...I love ya, but you are whining like Stallion Models T and he is calling you out at Rivals...he is right and you are wrong. We can't just break up and be friends and there are NO ways to soft coat what they had to do, just cut and go to the next stage....you also don't know the deal with SO....I have sat with two the last two days that are tight with SO and its is NOT the way the media played it. Leaks came from money guys.....and the wrong info was leaked.
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverIt is actually better to do it swiftly and honestly. As I said earlier, just don't be a jerk about it and insult them.
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnover
It happens all the time, Ponyscott. Amicable splits that don't make national news are a way of life at most programs. There is no talking out of both sides, we needed to open ships, but we needed to use some finesse. Being that corporate w/kids, after revamping the entire pay structure of college coaching, isn't discreet. W/the way Brown fills ships, we should just side w/discreet whenever we can. It could have been handled better, that's all. Orsini put this staff, time & place together, and I commend him for it. I'm enjoying this staff, and the tone of the program right now. I've always said i'd give the man props, if the hire turned out, and thus far its fun. That said, I know what I know about the search, through diverse parties/sources, and there is very little chance I change my mind. This could be a great hire for Orsini, at the end of the day, but the process was a national turd. At some point, perception matters, and cutting players in the way we did, doesn't really fall under the mantra, 'it happens everywhere', cause it doesn't. Discreet
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverI would think the players would have assumed this was coming and not be surprised by it when their number came up. Can they really be that upset it wasn't sugar coated?
"I think Couchem is right."

Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverIt is what it is. We need to accept the way things were handled and move on. I am sure this won't be the only thing that people might disagree with LB on. However, as long as he gets us the wins and moves us forward we should all be happy.
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverNone of the guys cut are good enough for LB's team. Hoopmanx, you know this is a reality of the business side of the game on a collegiate level. They were all medicore, at best, on a poor performing team last year. Again, I love Samp, but he should stay at SMU, finish school, earn a great degree, and build a foundation for his future. Keeping his scholarship is a gift.
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverjust disagree the search length was that big a deal. 5 weeks is not 5 months. we took our time and got exactly the staff we were after. i call that professional - the ends justify the means.
also - did you ever think maybe Brown doesn't want discreet when it comes to letting the world know there are a few spots open? I think he wanted to yell from the mountaintop - "this program is serious and has room for two or three guys right now". why be discreet about that? this is a business and time to gear it up as such. Hope all those guys get their degrees from SMU for free - that would be great.
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverI don't care we made cuts, could care less. The notion that you'd want to shout that we have open ships from the mountaintop is 4rd grade. People are going to know when we recruit them/offer them. Nothing good comes of executing kids on a national stage, that's all.
In the last week, the majority of the Larry Brown articles trending nationally are his fight w/Michael Jordan, and the bloodletting at SMU. W/a little tact, we could have avoided the 2nd set of articles. We needed the ships, so no big deal, but PR matters
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnover
should be interesting to see what Frog decides to do. If he wants to go into coaching and has the option, would he stay on with this team in some capacity (student assistant??) who could have on his resume that he "studied" under Larry Brown? He's got 2 years eligibility left and considering his love for the game, I would think he transfers to some FL school and earns a degree while finishing his playing career. What are the rules if he transfers to a different level, say a Rollins or Flagler College closer to home? Does he still have to sit a year?
Re: Orsini statement re: roster turnoverTo correct (once again) "I could NOT care less"..Geesh!
Long live Inez Perez!
