DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's basketball 2012-13 recruiting class has been ranked No. 20 in the country by Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. The class is also rated as the top signing class in Conference USA.

"I am thrilled about signing this top-20 class in the country. August can't come fast enough...I am ecstatic about working with and developing these athletes," head coach Rhonda Rompola stated. "Combining one of the top signing classes in the country with the group of student-athletes we already have in the program will help SMU women's basketball compete at the level we expect to be at year after year."

Rompola and her staff signed a total of seven players, including three transfers, with four players ranking in the top 100 of all women's basketball prospects in the country. Keena Mays, who transferred to SMU from Kansas at the start of the spring semester, highlights the class as the 15th-ranked prospect in the country.

SMU also added Oklahoma State transfer Brittney Hardy in January, and the freshman was able to play in 10 games for the Mustangs after being declared eligible immediately. Korina Baker signed to play her final two seasons at SMU after leading North Idaho College to the National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship as a freshman.

Lexus Williams was ranked highest among SMU's high school signees, ranking 61st among available prospects. As a junior, Williams led North Little Rock High School to the Arkansas State Championship final. The Mustangs also signed Nia Jackson from Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas, Farrin Bell from Richardson, Texas and Gabrielle Wilkins from Garland, Texas.

Wow. Way to go, Coach Rompola. I had read somewhere (here, of course) that their class was good, but 20th in the country?

We need several more like that to hang with the heavy hitters in the Big East, where the women's basketball schedule is nothing short of brutal, but this is a terrific start.

Now go improve on it! :D

I need to learn about chicks hoops, as I have girls, but was wondering if this ranking is legit, or one of those Clark Francis style rankings like Doh had for the Dia class?..thx
