Loading up on OU and SEC connections. I wonder what that says about expansion

If we leave the Big East, I think that it will be for the SEC. We just have to improve enough in BB and FB to prove that we can be competitive.

With TAMU unable to play any Texas Big 12 teams, SMU would be a natural Dallas "rival" for them. Plus, Arkansas fans love coming to Dallas. Adding 4-5 SEC games in the Dallas area would be a nice counter to the Big 12. Lots of local TV, Radio, and print ink to be had.

With the new Big 12 TV deal, no current Big 12 teams will be available for 13 years. While the ACC has some power teams, it would be hard to grab any of them:
1) Politics would probably prevent grabbing NC or UVA without taking NCSU and UV.
2) Would Florida allow FSU or Miami into the SEC?
3) Would South Carolina allow Clemson into the SEC?

That leaves the Big East. In terms of TV markets, SMU is sitting on the biggest one within a reasonable geographic distance to SEC schools.

I completely agree with you and have been saying that a school in Dallas would amplify the A&M take. We have to at least be minimaly competitive. This is why we can't screw around with June and bad recruiting. When he reaches his zenith, it is time to move on. We all knew he is a guy with limited top end. We are nearing it. We miss out in SEC, BIG 12,10 orPAC we may be in the new DI-AA. Time is short.

It means no one from the state of Texas was acceptable and no one with SMU connections (or passion for the school) qualified.

What? It means nothing of the sort. It means Rick Hart hired someone he's familiar with and has worked with in the past. It says absolutely nothing about the qualifications of anyone in Texas or any other state.
