Woohoo, walk on tryouts! Every school in America has them.

June Jones didn't save fball, our money guys saved fball by committing. Jones does about 40% of his job description and gets paid elite money. At the highest level, its about having the better players/athletes, not systems that even talent levels out. He's getting paid in full, for going to work 2.5 days a week

The money guys were a necessary but insufficient condition of the turnaround and got June here. Name one other coach that could have engineered the football turnaround. We were deeply entrenched from top to bottom in losing, and are still to a degree coming out of it.

Fran. Probably our first choice before June, Paul Johnson.

Maybe on Briles. Fran's turnaround success was marred by the A&M experience. Paul Johnson? No

By year 5 I daresay Fran would've been lightyears ahead in Texas recruiting v where we are now.

That's not to take away from where June brought us from

Maybe on Briles? Really? Fran may be marred by A&M ans that explains why he wasn't considered for hire, but that has nothing to do with if he would be successful. I take it you concede he would be. Paul Johnson had Navy playing pretty well. He is just like June. Gimmick offense to hide talent difference. He even developed his offense starting with the RnS, eventually become a run team.

Man, it's so easy to say that any number of coaches could have led us out of the pit of hell, the worst job in all of college football. I really think it took a noted culture change guy like June though. I believe he's just that unique and specialized in what he does.

I would have agreed at the time, but now seeing the change in commitment from the university, I don't think that, after the change from SMU, we weren't the worst job any longer.

Paul Johnson would have done a better job than June, and has at Ga Tech
