Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
The Baylor Line-which was the impressive Sea of Students in Yellow T-Shirts that spent an hour and a half standing in the Sun before invading the field is made up entirely of freshman and new students. SMU routinely has 1,000 to 1,500 students at games. I bet it doesn't average over 2,000. There were clearly more for the A&M game than has ever been there before-its atypical

Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
Hard Line doesn't go to the games, either, even though the station that grossly overpays those hacks carries the games, and if Rich Phillips isn't in the room, those hacks couldn't name an SMU player after Garrett Gilbert, Zach Line and Margus Hunt (who they probably assume is still "on the SMU track team.") They should call themselves out for being completely void of information or entertainment value. You're right about not being able to argue facts with those guys, since they wouldn't know a fact if they saw one.Junior wrote:Saying they don't go to the game.
Can't argue with the facts.
Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
Its big picture stuff - mike rhyner also said we should shut down football - said TCU is light years ahead and we wish we were there too basically.
Danny is a [deleted]. Corby is sympathetic to SMU. Reality - our fans suck. It is the truth.

Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
Visually the Aggy group was organized but musically they fell flat. Also, as another poster put it, 360 people in search of an endzone is boring(paraphrase). Their march music was lame and generic and when a band 1/4 your size out plays you then there's something wrong (Texas Tech, anyone? I was in that SMU band- we killed them). I liked the military precision but I could hear their footsteps over their music.Three Putt wrote:You are so wrong.DanFreibergerForHeisman wrote:Obviously they didn't attend the game Saturday, but if they would have been there they would have seen the Mustang Band absolutely blow away that overrated group of whatever they are from aggyland.SMU2007 wrote:quickest way to upset folks on this board is to say anything about the band

Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
The ticket is an overrated probably overpaid (based on their qualifications). I'm probably a little bias since I think it's Colby (maybe danny) who is the liberal [deleted] that I tend to block out. One of the only good ones on the show is norm, he's funny, to the point and has good analysis. If he goes that station is probably dead. The thing is I doubt any smu students listen to the ticket or even hard line to be honest so it's not much if a call out. Even if we got 6000 students how much of an improvement could that possibly be. We need Dallas therefore need a good team and marketing both lacking.
For our band, I wish they picked a different song....
I kind if wish rhyner along with hard line crew are morons but wish he had his way shut down football so you guys can stop [deleted] about fans and realize its the players and coaches

Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
The Aggie band has been practicing the same music and march for at least 55 years so they should it down by now.
Long live Inez Perez!

We get over 7k usually if we estimate it based on section capacities of the sections they almost always fill.gostangs wrote:Baylor has 13,000 undergraduates - TCU has about 8500
so Stallion you are saying you think there are more then 6500 STUDENTS at a Baylor game and more then 4800 STUDENTS at a TCU game. You are wrong sir.
point is we do pretty well on a percentage basis - we are just small.

Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
That's student ticket allotments, not BIS. Come on. Since part of SMU's student fees go to having a seat at every SMU game, our ticket allotment should be 100%. How many show up is another story. And we all know that SMU students have for decades come for the first half and leave at 1/2 time to get drunk, or put on their makeup for the evenings events. As far as the band is concerned we all know that we put quality ahead of quantity. Yeah, A&M with 44,000 students has a 400 member band that's 0.9% of their student body and I might add one of my friends put the Aggie halftime show on his facebook page from last Saturday. I watched it, and except for the fact that they have now added music from the 1950's, they are just as mediocre as always. If you take 0.9% of 6500 undergrads, you get 59 members. Apples to apples.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

The Hardline. That is show is a face palm. Your mistake is listening to them in the first place. Not a fan of no sport talk radio.

Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
This thread has taken a left turn, so I'll go with it re the band talk.
As a former H.S. drumline and DCI guy who did not play in the Mustang band while in school at SMU, but did take and teach music lessons as part of my fine arts credits, I have this to say:
I have always been sympathetic to the SMU band based purely on appearances, but feel no need to defend them when it comes to quality of sound. I do not know what their actual numbers are, but it looks like a 60-70 person band to me. Their relatively small numbers combined with their nontraditional dress (some say kind of dorky, but no worse than a "regular" band uniform, just different) and their unique musical style (jazz, show, stage, not sure what box to actually put them in or what to call it) leave a little to be desired to the casual fan/viewer who are automatically more impressed with 200+ member marching band with all the bells and whistles that accompany them.
To my ears, musically speaking they are superior to most schools we currently play. Our drum line sounds average to slightly above to me, but the rest of the band puts out a higher decibel level and better quality of sound per person than almost any I have heard, save UNT. If one can't aspire to the high UNT bar based on enrollment and talent, I'd rather be what we are versus trying to be a half [deleted] version of Baylor or TCU. On a side note, I'd much rather have a hot and super talented baton twirling "doll" than a bunch on non height to weight proportionate flag girls.

Re: Hardline calling out SMU students
From wikipedia, "7,000 of the SMU's 12,000 students are undergraduates." 3K students regularly attend games? 100+ in the band, 100 on the field and 2800 in the stands?
From that attendance table, over 99% of TCU's students attend games.
