Re: Not the coaching, it is the scheduling
Your argument is more likely to push more fans into the dump June Jones category if you want us to manufacture a Mighty Mouse schedule June Jones can win with. If I thought for a second that June Jones was putting an appropriate effort or emphasis on recruiting-maybe I'd agree. I want a Coach that competes on a National level-Top 25 in everything we do and all that. Some of us have clearly outlined why June Jones has not done an acceptable job in recruitment and it is based on overwheming evidence

Is that so he will feel better about what he is doing and not dent his ego?SMU 86 wrote:Stlhockeyguy02 wrote:This is a joke, right? Shutup and win your damn football games. Couldnt score a single touchdown on Baylor's ones. Too hard? Recruit better. Adapt your system. Hire the right assistants. Actually recruit and develop your own QB sometime this decade.
I think the point is since the coach is probably going to do things the way he always has then let's adapt a schedule that is more likely to get him wins while he is here.

No, it is so we can pretty much be assured to go to a bowl game.PK wrote:Is that so he will feel better about what he is doing and not dent his ego?SMU 86 wrote:Stlhockeyguy02 wrote:This is a joke, right? Re: Not the coaching, it is the scheduling
The term Mickey Mouse schedule carries negative connotations. I prefer to say scheduling down or having a coach friendly schedule. We need this to make sure we go to a bowl game under the present situation imo. Like Vitale posted he expected SMU to be 1-3 with the current schedule.Stallion wrote:Your argument is more likely to push more fans into the dump June Jones category if you want us to manufacture a Mighty Mouse schedule June Jones can win with. With a coach friendly schedule we can raise our expectations and probable wins.Vitale wrote:What is not a matter of opinion is that the Mustangs are exactly where many felt before the season that they would be at this point: 1-3. I did, and was concerned about the possibility of 0-4.

Which only emphasizes how worthless all these bowls really are. All you have to do is beat four cup cakes and then two real teams and you're bowl eligible. Whopee! How impressive.SMU 86 wrote:No, it is so we can pretty much be assured to go to a bowl game.PK wrote:Is that so he will feel better about what he is doing and not dent his ego?

Re: Not the coaching, it is the scheduling
86 i usually agree with most of what you say, but I can't accept that we should schedule nothing but out of conference cupcakes instead of TCU and Baylor our historical rivals. I do agree with you that two rough out of conference games is probably enough right now and we should have North Texas instead of A&M. Just wait until next year when we go into better conference and have another brutal out of conference schedule....it's going to be very difficult. I tend to think June has seen enough here and that a new coach will be saddled with what may be a real nightmare next year. And that new coach will have a short honey-moon until some will be shouting "WE HAVE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE HIRING THIS NEW GUY". But it's the nature of the game, here, there, almost everywhere. I spoke with a buddy that's an OU fan and he says almost every year there are posters on the OU board DEMANDING Bob Stoops be fired!SMU 86 wrote:let's face it we need the schedule to be for manufactured wins.... We just need to embrace who we currently are and figure out a way to make the team and coaches look good and get to bowl game. The sooner everyone accepts that and embraces it the better off we will be.

I'd agree with the schedule down proponents if you all were taking body bag games. However, you aren't playing @Oregon, @Texas, and @Alabama for paydays without a return trip. You're getting home and home deals from Texas teams. If Aggie or TCU approaches you and says 2 for 1 then you should tell us to go pound sand.
And there is no way TCU is going to be willing to be the only meaningful ooc game for SMU. I'm a huge proponent of the rivalry, but we won't be playing LSU and Ohio State while you spend 3 weeks prepping for us.
If schedules like this year are too much for you, I'd suggest having an ooc game moved to the middle or late season. Maybe playing Memphis in week 2 or 3 would make it better.

See a more coach friendly schedule even has a frog concerned that we might beat them.

86, please have more ambition. It's people like you who give SMU the image that we enjoy being average. We want more. You make these insignificant bowl games sound like there actually an accomplishment when they actually arent. Bowl games are very unimpressive when u play in a easy conference like C-USA.
JJ needs to man up and do what he's paid for and that is coach a winning football team. We dont pay him 2M a year to get blown out by mid-tier BCS programs.

Re: Not the coaching, it is the scheduling
Yes, we could certainly spend a lot less on a coach, schedule a bunch of patsies and get the same results - then get left behind in realignment. Unacceptable. If that is the goal, why bother. June obviously had greater goals early in his SMU career. Not sure what his goals are now.

Re: Not the coaching, it is the scheduling
Truly understand frogs point of view, as if we were in their shoes we would say the same thing. I think moving tcu to last possible OOC spot would be fun and smart. Baylor gets second spot. 1st and 3rd can be one cupcake and one borderlineFrog Barrister wrote:I'd agree with the schedule down proponents if you all were taking body bag games.
