Taylor Thompson
Not sure if this has been mentioned this but he had his first NFL catch two weeks ago and another last Thursday against the Steelers. Good to see another Pony doing things on Sundays.

Re: Taylor Thompson
Remember when JJ had that silly idea to use him as a receiver? Th nerve of JJ.
Re: Taylor Thompson
Actually....turns out his high school coach (who had him at TE)had a better read on what Taylor's best position was all along until he got to SMU and the coach didn't adjust his offense for the talent on hand. Of course when you can fluctuate your weight between 250 -285 and stand 6'6" and can run a sub 4.6.......

Re: Taylor Thompson
please don't argue that he wasn't a valuable player at DE for us. we all know he was a TE in HS.

It's just another in a long line of lame attempts to shower hate on the current coaching staff. Do they deserve heavy criticism? Probably. But incessant, made up hate is just stupid.

From what I have read here, I don't think the hate is made up. Seems to be authentic.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

But he had a catch in the nfl, so he must have been one of the greatest receivers ever, right? You have to forget all the great stuff he did as a DE on the basis of this one wonderful catch! Did they send that ball to Canton yet?

Preston Pearson who played for the Cowboys never played college football. Basketball at Illinois.
NFL scout saw him against Wisconsin and he decked a player. Scout was impressed. My memory is that the Colts drafted him and he played In the NFL for many years. You never know.

Re: Taylor Thompson
I don't think any one was hating on the coaches for playing him at DE. He was a damn good DE and all-conference. He was needed more on the defensive side of the ball at SMU than as a TE. Nothing to see here folks, move along...

From what I recall on ESPN, LSU and Alabama have been taking high caliber athletes and moving them to where they're needed; whether that's d or o.

All coaching staffs move kids around to meet team needs. A large % of kids will not play their high school position and another large % of kids will switch position from that for which they were recruited. No big deal.

True, but it is less common for a player to then switch back when they go to the NFL. The point of this thread, I think, is precisely that Jones didn't use him in his best position, which is in theory, the position he is being asked to play in the NFL. There IS a difference here, and it points to the fact that Jones not only does not recruit like he should but may not use the players in their optimal positions because his system is rigid and outdated.

So, the fact that we don't use a TE for more than a few plays shouldn't factor into the decision to play him at DE where he can greatly impact a game?
