The big bus parties are mostly registered because they pick up on campus and if you get caught having an unregistered party you get in trouble. Formals, away weekends, bus parties all take points. Not that unregistered parties don't happen but generally the more formal bigger ones require these points. Other ways to get them are community service, educational speakers, etc. So the basketball game is a great alternative, that guys actually want to do. vs waking up early on the weekends to clean a church. right or wrong a lot more guys will show up to a game then to community service
Makes sense....thanks for info. When it says wear letters....wish emphasis was for everyone to wear SMU vs Greek letters. No complaints...good idea....hope everyone shows.

Good idea. But rule should be to wear SMU colors. Maybe make SMU shirts with the Greek letters on the sleeve or something

For any group that has 50% of the membership show up in a letter shirt and stay for the entire game you will get 4 SERC POINTS. You will need to have a roster and have all those in attendance sign in for the game, then during the game find Jennifer “JJ†Jones and give her your sign-in sheet. That’s all you need to do and of course cheer on your SMU Mustangs as they play Loyola Marymount"
As a former fraternity member, I find this pathetic. Letter shirts are perhaps the gayest things ever. It's a damn BASKETBALL game. It's sports. If they are forcing people to go to athletic events, then we are enrolling a bunch of [deleted] d_bags. I applaud the IFC (who are a bunch of [deleted] by the way and have no interest in improving the SMU greek scene, but would rather demolish it) for trying to get people there, but this is just weak. The plan is fine, but it only works if you wear a maroon pike shirt, purple sae/fiji shirt, etc. PhiDelt doesn't even have those f'ing shirts because they know it's flat out gay. Wear SMU colors, go to the damn game on your own without being forced. It's your own loss. Oh, and Jennifer "JJ" Jones can go F herself. Sorry for the rambling. My fraternity spent 6 out of the 8 semesters I was there on probation because of her. Most of which because we wouldn't bother to "register" a party. It's college for crying out loud. SMU is pathetc in several ways when not discussing academics.

Not to get too far off topic, but about [deleted] going to SMU... it's a very unathletic student body. Only took 1 athlete to run through intramurals. Now I'm assuming those that don't play sports aren't sports fans, and don't know how to cheer at sporting events. Just my 2 cents on the student body, and not wearing schools colors or having school pride.
Back to cheering on basketball! Can't wait for Sunday at Moody.

You are dead on. A lot of students care more about hair products than sports.

Totally agree! With that said, maybe if we can get them to the game and the product is somewhat entertaining, then maybe the students will come back for another game. Due to the lameness of the students in general I am not all that hopeful....but just maybe.

On another site it was said that the student body president is trying to bring back the Mustang Maniacs or something? Moody Madness? I dunno. But hopefully it will be an organization much like Mustang 11 is to football. An organization that shows up loud to every game and hopefully teaches students how to cheer.

Yeah, no one in our student body is going to know how to cheer at a basketball game.
In all honesty, I think a lot of the student body are sports fans, but turn a blind eye to SMU sports. Even I only went to basketball games when my fraternity forced me and I love college basketball. That was partially due to me being in pledgeship, partially due to having a terrible team and a coach that i despised.
I will say that the culture is slowly changing. My VP mentioned going to the game Sunday with rushees. I'll be there, and even though I know that the student section will once again suck, I think Sunday will be a lot of fun.

Typical SMU, get one part right and then screw the pooch on the execution. They should be made to wear SMU gear, screw the stupid letters.

Been my case as well. The girls seem fit (but that's mostly to just look good). The dudes though, whole different story. You have the student athletes, and then you have a small minority of guys who you can tell work out often, and then most everyone else is unathletic. And honestly that's fine, I know plenty of people like that who still have passion for sports. But as a whole, people who didn't really play a lot of sports growing up don't have that same fire to support one's own school in athletics.
