The Future of Recruiting?

Postby Stallion » Tue Mar 29, 2005 6:22 pm

check out www.joemauro.org which is a website devoted to QB Joe Mauro of LD Bell. He is a good prospect-made Lone Star Recruitings Texas Top 100. Based on this kids' Academic Performance he probably set it up himself. You know with the cost of a college education these days its probably a wise investment. Wouldn't be surprised to see it catch on.

Any news on if this kid is considering SMU? It was reported in another thread that he went to SMU's junior day but rivals still doesn't list any interest in SMU.

Wow. What a website. If that guy built/designed the site himself, he's got quite a future.

I watched about 10 minutes of his highlights. Very good sized kid, seems to have a decent arm, although I'd like to see him take advantage of his size (and add arm strength) with a higher release point. Seems to have good accuracy (of course -- it's a highlight tape) and showed very good touch. Runs well, and looks like he can take a hit.

As for interest: I don't know -- never heard of him until recently. But didn't I read here that he was at SMU's Junior Day and really enjoyed it? He looks to me like a guy who would be a great addition.

The kid does have good accuracy though his arm strength, as mentioned, leaves much room for work. Watching the 2004 highlights i noticed one pass that traveled more than 35 yds in the air, it was a jumpball that he laid up there and got lucky. Throws well on the run but seems to have Chris Everett Happy Feet, and kinda slings the ball with his back foot flaling wildly. All in all problems that can be worked out, David Carr had a horrible release and hes doing okay. I think we should definately pursue this kid.

To me, he looks like a no-brainer. Coach Burns can iron out the kinks. The kid has an OK arm at this point with poor mechanics. But he's tall and lanky -- with proper coaching and some added muscle (he would become the personal property of Coach Burns and Coach Faucette), I would assume his arm would get significantly stronger. Many of the other necessary tools (mobility, brains) seem already to be in place.

My assessment is based on my very untrained eye, however, I see a kid that is big with decent/good speed. (4.7 forty) I also see a kid with an average high school arm, every throw over twenty yards left the screen in a rainbow arch before coming down. Finally, I see every run he has ending with him getting tackled way up high and going down on the first hit.

Honestly, when the project involves reshaping his throwing motion and working to get his arm strength way up, two of the three most important components of a QB, I think we need to wonder if we really need more projects on this team. He seems like a good option QB but with our spread offense, we need a traditional drop back and get it out of there with some serious zip on the ball.

I agree that his arm isn't going to put the ball through a brick wall. But he also looks like a guy who's tall but lanky -- he could add a lot of muscle and strength. That, coupled with good teaching, could make his arm a whole lot stronger. And he appears in those highlights to be a guy who's not just a one-trick QB.

has this kid expressed any REAL (in writing - either his own, or media) interest in SMU, or is this all just well wishing?
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
