This is why
it was imperative that we continued to build on our recent successes. We needed to not only win but dominate C-USA this year, similar to what TCU did its last couple of years in the MW. Instead we regressed with a coach who tried to bail on us, letting our best recruiter walk and losing to a couple of the worst teams in division 1, Tulane and Rice. The time was now and we dropped the ball.
It looks like the dominos are falling quicker than expected to get to the four 16 member super conferences and we are likely going to be overlooked due to our inability to build on our successes and horrible attendance issues. It's sad but I don't think we ever play a game in the Big East.

You're right. Also, SMU didn't get serious about athletics until it was too late. We deserve what we get.

Re: This is why
Football may have regressed - but the Athletic program as a whole is far more appealing than a year ago.
Recall that one short year ago SMU basketball was irrelevent.
We now have relevency in the two programs that really matter to the networks.

Re: This is why
We don't have relevance in any sport. Definitely not football where we can't even consistently fill half of our stadium let alone have a winning record in one of the worst football conferences in the country. And basketball? We haven't done anything to warrant relevance yet. We have some sexy recruits yes, but that has to turn into something tangible. Even then, relevance in basketball will not be enough to drive us towards a new better conference.

Re: This is why
This is why firing JJ now whatever the cost getting a new coach that will make headlines, if not at least someone who has success like Blakenship. We need to win games, and big games. This is not the time to chop off the OOC. This OOC next year is our chance for a make it or break it moment. If we can succeed, then it will be hard to see D-1 (actual) football ever again at Ford.

Re: This is why
The OOC schedule next year will annilihate us b/c of disgusting recruiting efforts from this staff. We lose Zach Line, Darius Johnson, Margus Hunt, Taylor Reed, Ja'Gared Davis, and Ryan Smith next season. We will be lucky to win 3 games. Jones dropped a nuclear bomb on this program after the ASU debacle blew up in his face.
Get ready for the following schedule...likely until football is dead at SMU:
Rice
UNT
Tulane
UTEP
Tulsa
La Tech

Re: This is why
I understand that we have maybe 1% of winning in each game and that its statistically impossible to win all 4 of them. If that miracle actually happened, we could be back on the map. Now again, losing rutgers to me is not a big deal. Losing cincy, louisville would annhilate us. Until then, Im praying that the world just give SMU one chance to make it or break it. At least do it out of respect for destroing us with a minor crime in comparisson to perv state

If we would've:
- rolled through the very weak C-USA undefeated
- won the conference championship
- won one of the three against A&M, Baylor or TCU, but more importantly been competitive in the other two
- averaged 25,000-30,000 per home game
I think the Big XII would've given us a long look.

Disagree. The Big 12 needed TCU b/c they were bleeding members at the time. Now the conference is stable. No reason to split the pie more ways, SMU doesnt make the pie any biggerLA_Mustang wrote:If we would've:

Sadly I think it would've taken even more than that. We could have needed to:
-Crush CUSA this season and well on our way to conference title
-Win 1 or 2 conference titles before this season.
- Beat Baylor, beat TCU, kept aTM close
-Sold out every game (our capacity is what 33k?)
We did none of this. Even if we did there's barely a chance of a passing glance. If you read Big 12 forums around the net they think of SMU as the "My Little Pony" program complete with hilariously sad graphics.
That is our reality and our school collective inability to see this coming has been astounding.

Re: This is why
Of all the power conferences, the Big 12 is the least likely destination for SMU.
They all however have the same liklihood.
ZERO.

Re: This is why
Not saying the Big XII would've taken us but they would have had to look. Houston has dropped the ball just as much as SMU. IMO, they would be much more appealing than us because they bring in the Houston market and allow UT to play in Houston every other year.
IMO, the super conferences are going to be the Pac 12, Big XII, Big 10 and SEC. Maryland leaving the ACC is a sign the ACC may get left out which will leave the remaining ACC fighting for a spot too.
