If that is the case then there are no June to the death supporters. I don't think anyone has said he deserves an extension or a raise. If he stays good. If he leaves good, the AD goes out and finds someone better.
I think we can come to somewhat of a happy meeting point with that.
Actually, I think several people have strongly advocated that June be fired this year. Maybe not you Rebel10, but definitely some others. I agree, however, that next year will be very interesting. Lots of question marks, but lots of potential as well. Unless we do something about the non-conference schedule, its going to be tough to do much better record-wise than we did this year. But with the contract expiring, next year will be big for the future of the program.

Yep, we need to show progress next year. While we may not win any OOC games we should not be blow out in them. We should show that we are competitive at least. That would be progress. Conference play will tell a lot as well.

I don't think anyone said that. We were going after Majerus, Buzz Williams, people mentioned Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart. Basketball is different though based on attendance and our league affiliation. It is much easier to fill Moody than it is Ford. Additionally, filling Ford still wouldn't put us in the vicinity of SEC/Big Ten attendance. Big East basketball, even with the defections, will be pretty stout. Big East football will be a step up, but not in the discussion as one of the best conferences.

Well, maybe I'm missing something here but it sure seems we have some on this board that have waffled on their position. Not me. He needs to go yesterday. The cancer is not in remission. It needs to be completely removed before the patient will have a chance to fully heal. The longer the decision is delayed, the longer the recovery.
As most on this board know- I am for jj leaving at the end of this year. In addition to the normal reasons given there is another major one. If he is here through next year he will be a lame duck coach. What recruit will want to come to a university not knowing who the coach will be? I realize the issue is the same both years except that next year we will lose an entire recruiting class while being in the nBE.
I would rather take my chances on this years class and take our lumps our first yr in the conference as opposed to getting hammered a couple of years in a row.
Also, those who think we will be competitve with next years OOC teams are not being realistic. It would not surprise me to see results similar to those we experienced this year or possibly even worse.
He won't be a lame duck at all. That would imply an admission by JJ or a proclamation from Rick Hart that JJ would be done at the end of the year, regardless of the team's performance. If he goes 12-0, he'll be hailed as a hero. If he goes 0-12, he'll be replaced. If he goes somewhere in between, which I assume most of us agree he will, his performance will dictate his future.
IIRC he only has next yr on his existing contract. hence, he would be a lame duck at the end of this season. I can not believe that Hart or the CofC would be extending his contract based on his 6-6 performance this yr and losing to Rice and Tulane.
Oh, OK. I misunderstood your post, and you make a good point. It's only a guess, but it wouldn't be a surprise if they wrote up an extension like they did for Coach Bennett, with a low buyout or something. That way, recruits could be told "look, Coach J has a 4-year deal" to encourage confidence from recruits. Then, if a replacement is needed, it can be made without major financial ripples. On the other hand, if the team does well next year, it could be ripped up and replaced with a better deal, if RHart deems that necessary, or maybe it would include some language that would allow extra years to kick in based on number of victories or some other incentive.

I was under the impression that he was signed thru the end of 2014, meaning 2 more seasons of his contract. Am I wrong?
My impression was they were always referring to a $4mil buyout which I would have thought was 2 mil this yr and 2 mil next. I guess it would depend if they added the extension to his original agmt or if they just added some additional years from the date they extended it. If he is here for 2 more years then IMO we are in real trouble. He has done very little successful recruiting this year and if he is here an additional year when we are in the nBE then we are really toast. Next yr wouldn't surprise me if we only won two games. I thought we would do better this year but said early in the season that we would likely lose to Rice which turned out to be true..

Those names came out long after Doh was fired in our trademark long coaching search. Even at that time most didn't believe we could land any of them.
I was in favor of Doherty coaching at SMU last season and wanted to see what he did, but he was not able to build on the CIT success so he had to go. Loved having him here, but it just didn't work out.
