Got it. That would have to be how it worked or else there'd be a lot of BMWs with soccer-ball-sized dents driving around the Park Cities. Thanks for the infoSMU SID wrote:We'd utilize nets in game similar to field goal nets and the one we had around the throwing fields.CalallenStang wrote:Yes but there would be little space at either end and balls that were shot over the south goal would wind up causing traffic accidents on Mockingbird

Re: Building....?
We have a golden opportunity in Dallas, since nobody really cares about the cowboys anymore. They suck and have sucked for years now. The owner and qb are universally hated. If we could be relevant against decent talent we could really make some strides. We have improved in boulevard fun and overall city acceptance each year in my view.
Re: Building....?
I agree with gostangs on this. The Cowboys have been our biggest competition in Dallas. If we can put a string of winning years (I'm suggesting 8, 9, 10 wins per year minimum) then I think we can replace the Cowboys with a respectable section of Dallas football fans.

Re: Building....?
I have to respectfully disagree at least in the short run. I think Dallas is way to diverse. We have too many schools in DFW, we have every sport covered. It would take perfect to near perfect seasons, around 5, to make Dallas notice and even conglomerate. The blvd is great and for my work friends that I invite to join are only interested in well the festivities. For year or two I have yet to see anyone take my free tickets or invitation to head over to the game. It's sad but I just think the blvd really is only good to entertain outsiders who want to stay outsiders and for ticket holders to get some free food and watch other games for awhile before we go in to watch us get destroyed by A&M or beat (play terrible) to a Montana st. Just my opinion and observation.
Re: Building....?
SMU_Alumni11 I think we are in somewhat of an agreement. We would necessarily have to put some big seasons together. However, if SMU could do that the Cowboys have become a mediocre football team. The hard nose A&M, Texas and other state school fans will probably never support SMU. However, that leaves about a million + other football fans in the North East Texas area. I'd bet most of them have a Cowboy shirt or hat. I'd further bet most are dissapointed with their team and could be seduced by another local team with a winning tradition.
IF WE CANT WIN THEM OVER WITH A WINNING TRADITION, then I think our chances to ever join a major conference are 'slim to none'.

Per DMN, cost for family of 4 to attend a Cowboys game is $635, highest in the NFL.
That should be a big part of our sales pitch. But most importantly, we need an entertaining product against a quality / known opponent, such as Baylor.
Year 6 of the JJ regime and we bail on Baylor is all you need to know about the current state of SMU FB. We've got a long ways to go. BB is a completely different story as we should be relevant again this fall.

Re: Building....?
I respectfully disagree. This always has been and always will be a Cowboys-first town. In addition, I can't agree that Jones and Romo are "universally" hated -- Jones is mocked (deservedly so), but many still admit he is a great owner (but crappy GM) because of the Super Bowls in the early 1990s, and if you listen to conversations on sports talk radio or in sports bars, etc., there are a lot of Romo haters, but there also are plenty who think Romo is the only reason the Cowboys even sniffed a .500 record, despite his famous late-season mistakes. But if the Cowboys continue to wallow in mediocrity, we certainly can climb up the pecking order of priority teams for fans, because football will always rank first.gostangs wrote:We have a golden opportunity in Dallas, since nobody really cares about the cowboys anymore. You're kidding right? The Cowboys have led the NFL in attendance the last four seasons and average over a million DFW viewers per game all despite sucking.
