Exactly. It would be nice to play Baylor, and we probably will again in the future. The goal was to get out of one of the games against the strong OOC opposition, and it worked out that Baylor was the game. Let's not make it look like anyone thinks Baylor is an NFL team. One game was going to go, and that was the one.smusportspage wrote:Just stop with this Baylor crap. Stallion, you just said it yourself that we no longer have CUSA lightweights on our schedule. Our schedule is plenty tough enough without Baylor next year. If we want Baylor in the future, they will be there to schedule. Jeez. Don't get me wrong it would be nice to have Baylor on the schedule, it is just not the end of the world that they were taken off for next year.

I was drawing a blank on the QB from Kentucky. At least Philips and Mumme have coached QB's in college who played in the NFL - regular season, so maybe there will be something to tell recruits about developing college QB's into NFL QB's. Kolb is now into bass fishing and hunting wild pigs with just a bowie knife.......might want to talk with him if we ever get our bass fishing team!WordUpBU wrote:Mumme had #1 overall Tim Couch. He was a bust but was an NFL starter. He also had Jared Lorenzen.PonySnob wrote:Has Jones, Phillips or Mumme put a QB on a regular season NFL roster? I don't believe it happened with Chang or Brennan for Jones and Keenum was a practice squad player for the Texans.PerunaPunch wrote:I find this development extremely interesting and more evidence that June is willing to continue the evolution of this offense. And from a recruiting standpoint (at least if I were a QB or receiver), I think it would be hard to pass on the opportunity to learn from the team of Jones/Phillips/Mumme.
Phillips helped coach Kevin Kolb at Houston.
Jones had Brennan.

Didn't Mumme also coach and/or recruit Jared Lorenzen, the left-handed QB who went on to be a backup with the NYGiants?

im glad we moved baylor - assuming a&M was impossible to move which is what i have heard. we arent scared of baylor - we are scared of going 0-4 as we head into october. 1-3 is likley to be bad enough.
i dont know why it is so hard for us to get what everyone else does. out of conference = 2 easys, a medium and a tough. TCU will be our tough as long as we can keep them scheduled.

This made me laugh out loudBigT3x wrote:At some point doesn't it become easier to just recruit like a normal team instead of assembling this geriatric brain trust to get cute with the offense because we don't recruit?

Saw Lorenzen play up here in Fort Thomas. Strongest qb I ever saw and could throw amazingly. If only he could have kept away from the dinner table he could have been a legend.

Nothing really wrong with the scheduling. It's just everyone, including the athletic dept., thought we would be better today than what we were years ago when the schedule was made. Little did anyone know we have stayed about the same - which is decent. Can't blame the schedule-makers for this one. Responsibility for the progress or improvement of the team lies elsewhere.go stangs: "i dont know why it is so hard for us to get what everyone else does. out of conference = 2 easys, a medium and a tough. I see Couch's failure as an NFL quarterback as a potential compliment to Mumme's talent. Mumme was able to help Couch put up stats worthy of Heisman candidacy and a #1 draft pick, despite Couch's actual talent.PonySnob wrote:Has Jones, Phillips or Mumme put a QB on a regular season NFL roster?
I think we were (or are?) that easy (medium?) team for other schools. Thus, we didn't have the time to play easy teams b/c we are happier playing higher caliber former rivals. Being 'the easy team' has meant we play teams like Tex.Tech, A&M, Baylor, and I suppose TCU fits into the list. While we could follow the traditional model and play down, I don't think most of us want to sub out Texas Tech for Texas State, as evidenced by how upsetting it was to lose Baylor for Montana St.gostangs wrote:i dont know why it is so hard for us to get what everyone else does. out of conference = 2 easys, a medium and a tough.
