2014 BB recruiting - pretty awesome

Postby LA_Mustang » Tue Jul 16, 2013 4:45 pm

I'm off today and a lil bored so I checked out the work our staff is doing with the 2014 class. According to Rivals, we have the following offers out to players still uncommitted and those who have at least medium interest in SMU. The number listed before the player's name is their national ranking.

#3 - PG Emmanuel Mudiay (TX) - 5-star, has 10 offers, we are in his top 5, 7/20 LB watching Mudiay in front row. 7/22 Mudiay quoted as saying it would be incredible to play for LB.
#6 - C Myles Turner (TX) - 5-star, has 18 offers, Kentucky pursuing him heavily
Inter - G Dante Exum (Australia) - 5-star, has 7 offers (G-town, Indiana, LSU, Vandy)
#52 - C Elbert Robinson (TX) - 4-star, has 10 offers (Florida, KU, Baylor, G-town), 7/20 LB in attendance watching Robinson.
#71 - PG Alex Robinson (TX) - 4-star, has 13 offers, LB and Maligi watched him last weekend
#78 - G Phil Booth (MD) - 4-star, has 13 offers (G-town, Indiana, Iowa, Nova, Maryland)
#96 - G Larry Austin (IL) - 4-star, has 10 offers (Illinois, KSU, Okie St, Memphis, Wake)
#108 - G Khadeen Carrington (NY) - 3-star, has 12 offers (BC, UConn, FSU, Iowa, Pitt, WV)
#127 - G Nick Babb (TX) - 3-star, has 10 offers (Arkansas, A&M, TT), 7/20 Babb cut his final list to 4 - SMU and the 3 others listed.
#131 - F Dante Buford (TX) - 3-star, has 7 offers (Illinois, So. Carolina, USC, Wichita St)
#146 - F Andre Walker (MD) - 3-star, has 9 offers (Cincy, DePaul, Temple, Xavier)
NR - F Trent Brinkley (TX) - 3-star, has 3 offers (UTA, NT)
NR - F Terry Maston (TX) - NR, has 5 offers (Marquette, Oregon, TT, UH)
NR - C Adonis DelaRosa (NY) NR, has 7 offers (G-town, Providence, St. John's, FSU)
NR - C David Wacker (TX) NR, has 9 offers (Nebraska, TT, Pepperdine)
NR - PF Mitchell Solomon (OK) - 3-star, has 9 offers (OU, Okie St, A&M, TT)

There could be more but that's all I found. Hoopmanx, Scott or Hoopjunkie can probably offer a lot more but I'm just a man with a Rivals sub. Regardless, our BB coaches are busting their arses and they need to be given a lot of credit for changing the culture and expectations. btw, they are killing in 2015 as well.

i think i saw on twitter that Booth narrowed his list to 5 and we didn't make the cut. Booth went local with Gtown, UVA, et al.

Larry Brown and staff's success and ambition on the recruiting trail compared to the football staff's efforts is day and night. Really makes me sick that JJ is our coach with his total lack of effort in recruiting. Just look at our commitment list; it's an absolute joke. One bball commitment will have more BCS offers than the whole football class combined. Shameful.

Always interesting to see how quickly someone will start [deleted] about football recruiting on a basketball recruiting thread.

Yes, but there are many threads about that. I just enjoy seeing how long it takes someone to [deleted] about football recruiting on basketball recruiting threads.

@Hoopmanx just tweeted that Babb has us as a finalist. I initially posted that he has 5 offers but has 10 and we made his final list along with Arkansas, TT and A&M. Here's the newest video of Babb that Hoopmanx tweeted. He looks impressive. http://tmblr.co/ZWNNitq9d3V2
It is also being reported that LB is in attendance today watching Elbert Robinson, and that LB along with Scott Drew were in the first row watching Mudiay.

This staff's theme song should be "I go to work" by Kool Moe Dee because it seems they do not take a day off. What an unbelievably great hire it was to bring LB to SMU. He hired an equally great staff and almost overnight we've become a player in big time college basketball. It is a great time to be an SMU basketball fan. Can't wait until November.

The man is 72 years old and still enjoys traveling around the country and watching high school ball. Basketball is truly his passion.

I think ending up in the top 3 for Muddiay would be great, although I fully expect him to go the Kentucky.

^^^which makes me wonder as a long time SMU fan how many of these kids will we eventually get. I've gotten so hopeful so many times only to be disappointed. Some of you guys in the know... what are the odds we will get some of them? What will it depend on? Enquiring minds want to know.

The quoted statements from the recruits are pretty darn impressive-but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. But Brown already has an impressive recruiting record at SMU. With Moody completed and with a nationally ranked solid class already in place, the recruiting momentum should get stronger-SMU has more to sell this year based on the foundation already laid.

Were you disappointed with last year's class that was ranked 14th in the country?

Coach Brown has a good track record in recruiting at SMU. I do not think we will see any under the radar players in the class. It will be a 40 class or better with 3 scholarships to give imo. If we get 4 scholarships somehow then it goes to potentially another top 15 class imo.
