It's easy to see the results of this policy in the Baylor and Aggie games over the past two years. Geez.

I am amazed. My late mother's bridge club was ahead of the game too. And they would have not been ready for the first tackle football game either.

When they change the rules for everyone then I will be fine with it. But for now, all he is doing is setting these kids up to be hurt by not having them prepared for getting hit, and he is lessening the chances for a win by not have them ready to hit.

Are Alabama, LSU, Ohio State etc hitting in practice? If the teams with the most success are doing it, maybe we should rethink this being "ahead of the game"

How do you find out which of your young guys can hit? I have been reading that JJ Wilcox has been a hitting machine at Cowboys Camp. The coaches are telling him to quit nailing the starters. When coaches are telling your rookie to tone it down you know you have a good one.

Check JJ's first game record starting at Hawaii.......hopefully our guys aren't "shellshocked" the first time they have to tackle or get tackled on August 30!

I am not trying to be sarcastic but just who is praising JJ other than JJ and some SMU people?

June's teams have lost 10 times out of 14 games in the 1st game of the season in his head coaching career starting at Hawaii....not a good record to say the least. Are they ever ready?..... :(

We went half pads many a time. the only thing not full sped about half pads is completion of the tackle and hitting below the waist. I hated half pad days cause it was full speed without the total protecting. ONe till goes to the ground and gets grass burns. One still has to block and fight off blocks at full speed. One just doesn't get smeared catching a high pass over the middle on pass skelly (OK, that didn't suck).

One could conduct the majority of practice without 'full' contact but as some point a little full speed is needed. In 1980, our three a days changed significantly in that we stop hitting so much. We limited it to a few days instead of most the time. Injuries dropped off from previous years. So we started the year healthy.

Everything has pluses and minuses. I just hope Jones finds the 'just right' approach were the team is ready Aug 30th and not too beat up.

The guy has a nice reputation in the wider world of college football. He was never a cultural fit here with the exclusive, shallow gin and tonic crowd.

Besides Ron Meyer, has SMU ever had a "cultural fit"? (with regard to the shallow gin and tonic crowd)
