If you prefer college football over the NFL, that's a Pandora's Box you don't want to open.

SMU should've sued the everloving sh*t out of the NCAA years ago.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Amen. One of the best things about the college game is that it's not the NFL.PerunaPunch wrote:If you prefer college football over the NFL, that's a Pandora's Box you don't want to open.
Re: it's time to pay college athletes
It would not be the NFL even if they did increase stipends. Unwarranted fears imo.

Could a school like SMU even afford to pay stipends?

Re: it's time to pay college athletes
The problem is we pay football players, we pay all athletes, including the women's rowing team and equestrian team. And that will get expensive. So of the Big Boys can pay but I would think most programs couldn't.
Thus, we might pay athletes but have to decrease the sports and scholarships available. And to keep up with the Women's sports quota, we would have to decrease scholarships and or sports for men.
As with anything, there is a cost associated with this and is the result worth the investment?

Re: it's time to pay college athletes
They could always form a new division that pays athletes and let the other divisions not pay athletes. That way everyone is happy right? I am sure all those who do not want to pay would not mind being in the division that does not pay right? I guess the division 4 thing would help both sides of the issue.

It would/will destroy college athletics.

Funny.
The person on the cover of the rest of the world's versions of Time (Europe, Asia, World, etc.) is Vladimir Putin.
The person on the cover for the United States version of Time is Johnny Manziel.
I don't know if this is funny or tragic.
On another note: I've long thought that Thad or someone should do a documentary on '30for30' covering this topic. It's topical, would definitely be watched, and if done with some integrity and some perspective it could be genuinely insightful.

Re: it's time to pay college athletes
If they want to pay student-athletes for playing sports, then might as well just create minor leagues (like it works in every other country outside of the US) and not have any association with the real focus of universities. I like that college sports complements universities, but this is taking it a level that is no different than just being a direct extention to professional sports, and if that's the case, they should separate it.

Bigtime revenue producing sports and programs need to leave the ncaa. Let the lawyers hammer out the details and title IX. And while they are at it set up a fund for the disabilities athletes will suffer now and in the future and the shortened life expectancies.
