It was a massive failure because both teams were/are traditionally winning programs that had crap seasons. UT lost to Chaminade (who? exactly.) a few weeks earlier and UCLA wasn't doing too well either (they lost to Cal Poly). Had both teams been in the top 10, hell even the top 25, that place would have been sold out.

Guess you were not an SMU fan in 1984 if you do not know who Chaminade is.

SMU Coach Dave Bliss was rather critical of officiating in the aftermath of the Mustangs' 71-70 loss.

Bliss could not be reached for comment, but Crum said: "You don't get many breaks over there. A lot of times, it's the things that \o7 aren't \f7 called that affect the game."

Lopes conceded that the improbable finish that beat SMU could only have happened in Hawaii. No time was showing on the clock, but the buzzer had not sounded. The Silverswords inbounded the ball to Keith Whitney, who caught the ball and shot it in the same motion. It went in.

"If we were on the road," Lopes said, "the game would have been over."

Slow down. Even if both team were playing well, they weren't selling out Reliant Stadium. True, both teams were off to slow starts so they didn't generate much excitment from their own fans. Add in poor marketing (I live in the Houston area and never heard about the game) and they were destined for horrible attendance. For this event, I hope they promote it well in the DFW area.

I asked Hart on Twitter and emailed the organizer of the event, so hopefully I get a response.

Well Hart answered my question, and they are making students buy tickets, which is unfortunate because they are 50 dollars.

It doesn't really matter that the parents will pay for it. No on is going to want to pay for this game. I love SMU basketball and will buy a ticket, but to an average observer, this game is not worth the money.
