I was playing in this game. It took a long time for us to figure out what was going on. Glad to have fans that are dedicated.

In the third quarter, the game was interrupted after an SMU student took a Nevada helmet, put it on and ran through the field.

The student was promptly dealt with my stadium security and local law enforcement.

“Where did he get that helmet?” Bennett asked. “I know this, he stayed on The Boulevard too long.”

Still hilarious

There were very, very few people in attendance to see that feat. I was there - only because I had absolutely nothing better to do.

I was on the Nevada side. Greatest moment ever.

I especially enjoyed when they were carting him off the field. The Police were so p'oed that he slipped by them, they were dragging him off by the face mask and tore it off his head. He was just grinning like a Cheshire cat.

This is the first time I've heard this story. Awesome! Wish I had been there to witness a Top-5 Ford moment.

I get a smile on my face every time I remember this story. Truly one of the only bright spots of SMU Football in the Phil Bennett Era. I just emailed a bunch of friends the original post, with what I remember from what happened too. Can't believe I missed the first time this was posted.

Pretty entertaining in the radio booth that day, too. We all looked at each other, wondering what we were seeing, but nobody said anything right away, as if ... "that's not a student in the huddle, is it?"

Like some many others before me, how did I possibly miss this game? There has got to be film somewhere. May need to beak into the SMU athletic archives to unearth it.

I was unaware of this incident before reading this. The title of this thread was one that might normally make me take a pass. But I am really, really glad I read this. One of the best threads in PF history.
