Haha SMUer well said that guy is a [deleted] for thinking fans should be here to watch atrocious football and terrible weather. I was actually happy with the turnout despises the past 4 games.

wewii; Do you think you are the only alumni that has followed this team from the 70's? There are many of us, and many are tired of the June Jones S*it S*ow. After 40 years of watching the Mustangs I am done with June. He has done what the DP didn't---completely killed the spirit of the team and TOTALLY disenfranchised the alumni. JJ has got to go. Unless you are part of the solution (like Red and Blue tried to be) you are part of the problem. I have yet to hear anything helpful from you.wewiii wrote:Wait a minute...you have this red and blue army crap..you write little go-get-em tag lines along with illustrations for each game (useless btw)...you tried to start an SMU revolution...and you post that? Wewii makes the Houston cougar trolls look like SMU fans
Re: Pathetic Turnout..,
Agreed. Just fed up with the sorry lack of support my entire life. I know TCU is in an upswing of recent years. But I don't think the base would get behind SMU if they were nationally ranked. Can't buy merchandise except for campus bookstores or online. Anyway...ranting...6SMUer wrote:He tried to quit on us with going to ASU then he mentally quit on us after.

You might have valid points of June. But SMU fans are so disengaged. That was my point about the 70's. Not to declare super fan status...but that the attitude is a sorry tradition.I'm4Peruna wrote:wewii; Do you think you are the only alumni that has followed this team from the 70's? Team played good. We need some wins regardless of the fans. You can go to basketball games if you want to see fans. Let's stop whining about fans and let's get some wins.

Re: Pathetic Turnout..,
Actually, the 80's "Pony Excess" teams probably drew an extra 10-15 thousand of the (casual, fair weather, t-shirt) fans from Dallas. Remember games against Grambling & North Texas that drew 30,000 people. Games against TCU & Tech drew in the 40,000. And games against UT, A&M, Arkansas were 50,000-to-60,000 sellouts at the old Texas Stadium. . . The SMU administration after the "Death Penalty" did a "fine damn job" of chasing those fans away.

Re: Pathetic Turnout..,
A lot of high school games look the same way. While watching some prospects highlights with one of my football coaching friends I thought to myself how empty many stadiums were.
Went to a hs game recently where a 4A team that was in 5A 2 years ago visited a 3A team and they brought a small team, small band, small drill team, about 10 cheerleaders and what looked like only some family members to support the team.
This 4A school is from a big city but that's just the way it is now I guess. And the smaller 3A school won.
I remember packed houses in high school years ago at least with the teams I cheered for. People would be turned away at the gate. It's not quite like that now in most places I guess.
Teams that are hot now like Allen may run out of seating but like I said most of the hs tapes I saw looked like stadiums were 20-50% full.

Re: Pathetic Turnout..,
It all comes down to game day experience, fun team to watch, a coach that actively recruits and speaks at local municipalities and a school that advertises and hosts big events in the local cities. I mean when I was in high school in southlake I never knew SMU existed til I got a list of Dallas schools and did research but everyone knew who UT, AM, TCU, Arkansas and Alabama were. We need out reach programs and need to get out of the rich people fundraisers and get out meet people whether it by going to churches, local schools, community events etc, so that everyone knows smu.

You don't know how they would respond, we haven't been ranked for over 25 years. How many schools can make that claim.wewiii wrote:But I don't think the base would get behind SMU if they were nationally ranked.
Before you criticize, let's see how we respond to our BB team, a REAL program.

Re: Pathetic Turnout..,
the box score says attendance was 19,436. obviously we know that has to be the number of tickets sold rather than the number who actually attended. If only the weather had been nice...at least 19k is a decent crowd in Ford. Wonder if we will see that kind of number for homecoming?
Re: Pathetic Turnout..,
If students ever knew of your club or followed your tweets and commentary, I don't think think they consider you a resource for spirit. So that might be why they haven't used your art projects. Of course ( as some of the idiots here would tell me) you have every right to do whatever you please. Obvious. But you immediately trolled into my post, and immediately stated "poor product" while later, in another thread, you saluted those 4,000 who stayed till the end...and smiley faces too...which just shows you just slide all over.SMUer wrote:I create them in hopes students will find them and share them on Facebook, nobody does but I won't apologize for making them. RBA isn't my job and I'm just trying to make game days more exciting. Go start your own JJ-BJ Club, turd.wewiii wrote:illustrations for each game (useless btw)
Some idiot told me that you've done more than me than others. Not sure about that. In small ways, very small, turning the spirit site into a [deleted] group...you and other jerks here have probably turned more off of SMU they you've really helped add.
I mean every person who has ever cared about the program, has felt this way regarding dismal support at one time or another. So I find it odd why some of you super trolls with 5k posts need to fire shots at me. If this is a topic that you don't care to discuss or are sick of, move on.

Re: Pathetic Turnout..,
I would have guessed 18K so the 19+K sounds close.
For a saturday rainy day with all the other activities people have to d (kids sports and such) I thought the crowd was good. Better weather and the Nieman students with their parents for California might have showed up.
Given our crummy performance in the previous two games, game time and weather I think 19K is OK. And not far off our usual average.
We can whin about the crowds but they have been consistently in that range for years.

Well, I guess I'll stop my efforts altogether. You have convinced me
I wasn't trolling. Every time someone exclaims "terrible fans" or "pathetic turnout", to me the answer is rather obvious: people don't show up to SMU games because they don't want to be at SMU games. The solution is figuring out why. I personally don't think it has to do with pathetic-ness. There are reasonable reasons why, which I succinctly pointed out.
