Not much since we were coming off of a 1-11 season and did virtually nothing in recruiting to create any buzz about the team. Plus the home schedule was lousy.

My point is that getting a high profile coach that will produce a buzz, which June was supposed to do, doesn't seem to create the increase in attendance we want. Let's just get a coach that knows how to recruit and win. There has to be more Art Briles and Gary Patterson types out there just waiting for their chance.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

10 game losing streak in JJ's first year didn't help either...........

BTW- does anybody have an idea what some of the assts. are paid? i.e. Mason and Mumme.
Mason better not be making more than minimum wage
Even if I don't necessarily agree with all of it, I understand the June bashing.
But Tom Mason is a freaking GREAT coach. Less than a year ago, he could have walked on water after his defense obliterated what was considered to be a vastly superior Fresno St. team.
Mason plays with the cards he's dealt. Frasier is gone. Pittman is gone. Thompson is gone. Margus is gone. Oh, and don't forget about 3 three DBs we have earning NFL checks, JG, Reed, etc., etc.
Mason actually recruits. He motivates his guys. I think we made progress on D this week as Beau Barnes had a breakout game. It's not all Mason's fault that we have 20 scholarship receivers and don't have much quality upperclassmen / depth on the DL. We're lucky to have him.

PP- my comments were not to be negative on Mason or Mumme. I was simply curious what kind of $$ they were being paid. I tend to agree that Mason is a good coach but not sure that I want him as a HC. I really think we need to totally clean house but if any one coach was to stay I would think it would be Mason.

Mason has definitely been the staff's MVC but his he's not above reproach since his unit has been a trainwreck so far (100th in total defense, 121st in scoring defense). Wasn't his defense supposed to be a top 25 unit? That tells me something went wrong during recruiting/development which partially falls on Mason.
