Re: Realistic Targets ITTThanks for the info OBF.
I love how a poster from Ohio seems to be more "in the know" about our prospects and our program than most current SMU students! This is what we need - more casual sports fans that become SMU fans for any reason, be it Coach Brown, Coach Jones, our recruits, our school , heck even if they just like our colors and the way that "smew" just rolls off the tongue!
Re: Realistic Targets ITTWhen Mudiay committed I bought season tickets. When Turner signs, I move back to Dallas to better use my season tickets.

...or better yet sell them online and make $$$$$$$ "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Realistic Targets ITTDoes Stanley Johnson signing with Arizona increase SMU's chance at Jonah Bolden?

Re: Realistic Targets ITT
I would certainly think it plays a role. But it really comes down to how hard Zona is recruiting him. Obviously with Johnson in the mix, they may not have that need anymore, then it undoubtedly would help SMU. I can ask that analyst tomorrow if he knows anything. But they still might feel the need to add his skill-set. From what I read, he didn't say much other than Zona and UCLA are the front-runners with Bolden. Therefore, I assume Miller is still going after Bolden otherwise he would have said they cut ties or at least filled the need. Know what I mean? Either way, I'm somewhat disappointed. I don't think there's a good chance of landing any of the prospects and Brown might get left holding the bag. Obviously banking the scholarship isn't going to hurt, but there is a need for a legitimate big if you're trying to make a deep run with Mudiay in the mix. The forwards on the team are good, but to really push the team to the next level, it'd be nice to add solid depth at the 3 and 4. It doesn't sound like the net is cast very wide and most of the "top" prospects are off the board with the early signing period passing.
Re: Realistic Targets ITT
I think the need for a big is not as urgent as some think. None of our bigs graduate next year and are getting good time this year. By the way we have more 2 scholarships available now that Jalen is transferring. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Realistic Targets ITTwe can still take a transfer or JC in that 3 or 4 spot also.
Re: Realistic Targets ITT
It's not a matter of being urgent. It's a matter of upgrading the talent. I know it's going to take some getting used to lol, but when you have a team that should compete for an elite 8 spot, you can't have the bigs that SMU has right now. I think right now, Brown is looking at the Elite 8, definitely Sweet 16 right now. Therefore, you need to upgrade the bigs and/or at least give them quality depth if that makes sense. That's the way I look at the team, and I'm an outsider. Mudiay alone won't take them to the promised land, there needs to be upgrades, it's no different then last year to this year. SMU returned all 5 starters, yet 2 are starting? I'm not even sure if I'm correct, but that tells you the talent influx. That needs to happen again next year to make the team a serious player come March.
Re: Realistic Targets ITTOBF, everyone is interested in upgrading the talent, and we need a big, but its not as urgent as you suggest. We need a shooter just as much, and 3 and/or a face-up 4. By this time next year we'll return Moreira, Kennedy, Moore, Cunningham. That's a very solid big rotation before additions. I can think of many top 25 programs that aren't running that type of depth, athleticism right now, much less a year from now. Certainly, we're not good to the point of not needing Turner/Bolden, but players matter more than position. We have 2 kids that can stretch the D, we need more. In that regard, losing Bernardi really hurt
Re: Realistic Targets ITT
I agree a shooter would be nice, but I can name quite a few teams that don't have JJ Reddick on their team in the top 10. There's guys that can knock it down and Mudiay will be able to as well. There needs to be production out of the forwards, on the scoring end if this team really wants to get deep in the tournament next year, so while we disagree, I think it is something that really needs addressed this year if possible. Moreira is a depth guy on top 10-15 teams, and he's only got a year left I believe (JUCO).
Re: Realistic Targets ITTOBF, I think you're slighting Moreira a bit. He has an NBA body and nose for the ball on the boards and blocking shots. He definitely needs work on the offensive end but the tools are there.
