Baylor QB Bryce Petty: No SMU offer?
This seems to indicate that we didn't offer Bryce Petty:

I think I remember announcer's saying his father was a coach at Baylor or something like that. Explains a lot if true.

he did very early-then I think there was a Coaching change and he was begging for anyone to take him for a long time. Had kind of a disappointing Senior year. SMU contacted him but dragged him a long. Then awhile later Baylor came in and he committed. I think either right before or after he committed to Baylor SMU renewed interest. I don't think Petty's father was a Baylor Coach. Their QB a few years ago was a Texas transfer BJ Kinne whose Dad was a high school coach and former Baylor player

Yeah, his family lives in Midlothian...his dad doesn't coach for Baylor

in sum we could have had him-Baylor came in very late but June was off recruiting QBs in Kansas, Washington, California and Arkansas when Texas is loaded with outstanding QBs polished by Texas 7 on 7

Do you think he would have developed just the same under Coach Jones?

Who knows-I just remember posting that I thought we should take him. This was the year we offered Padron early and then he got hurt and only started 3 1/2 games in his high school career. I thought it would be worth it to take a Tennessee commit as a backup option since Padron might take awhile to develop

June would have converted him to a DB.

problem was that Petty sent him a CD and jj couldn't figure to get it to play on his betamax.

When the coaching change came at Tennessee he wanted to come to SMU but June and Morrison already had Padron and would not offer him. So he took an offer from Baylor.

All things considered, that worked out well for us and Tennessee

Was Petty one of the "under the radar" HS players that turned into a very good College QB?
