Fitzsimmons jokes about SMU hiring Ed Orgeron... Thoughts?

Postby SMU1523 » Tue Dec 03, 2013 12:40 pm

Ian Fitzsimmoms on ESPN 103.3 just made a joke about SMU hiring Ed Orgeron. Would that be a good hire?

He's a Lousiana boy. Could he bring a Texas-centric staff with him?

He would be the exact opposite of June- defensive minded, fiery personality, tireless recruiter. With that said, he was 10-25 in three years at Ole Miss

Retreads rarely work out, plus with his "colorful" past I doubt RGT would be interested in having him represent SMU Football.

I like our chances if we hire him. What do we have to lose apart from $2 million to buyout June?

Will we be using Eastman & Beaudine for this next search?

I feel like it'd be the reverse June Jones approach. Hard recruiting poor coaching.... I think June could be a good coach with stronger recruiting efforts.

If you really want to depress yourself, play the "what if" game where Klemm never leaves for UCLA

I don't think JJ wants a team full of highly recruited players. That would put pressure on him to win. I think he prefers being the underdog. If his team wins, he's exceeded expectations. If he loses, the other team was just more talented. High pay, low pressure. What more could he want?

This, along with the fact that he is lazy, hits the nail on the head.

The following coaches have a zero percent chance of landing on The Hilltop with RGT as president: Coker, Orgeron, and Petrino.

But I'd take any of the 3 compared to what we have in place now.

not so sure on the coker thought....petrino would be a stretch, but who knows. Its not like Larry doesn't also have some baggage and that has worked out pretty well.

I think less about what RGT or Hart (obviously) want, and more about what Loyd, Sewell, Ford, Miller, etc. will want in our next coach. The CofC pays the bills, and to me, they are the sole reason that June hasn't been fired yet, and the reason he is likely to finish out his contract next season as well...
