JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiationsModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiatIMHO, June has a point. I do believe SMU needs to show greater commitment to the football program and it is a joke we don't have an IPF. We did lose recruits to stringent admissions standards over the years.
I don't think June has met expectations, but I don't think he ever had the full support of the administration during his entire time on the Hilltop. I am not saying he should be our coach in the future because I would take a chance on Chad Morris. Nonetheless, whoever is the coach of SMU needs 110% of administration support. Mediocrity in College Football gets you no where!
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
ASU withdraw their offer from JJ so I would think SMU could do the same. #HammerDown
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
What major recruits did we lose over the years due to stringent admissions and what school did they end up going to? #HammerDown
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiatWith my defense of June, I would also like to say that I would have fired his [deleted] after the ASU disaster. I think that event is what has hurt SMU football more than anything in the past 5 years.
Firing June after that incident and hiring Chad Morris would have made us look strong and committed to football. That stunt was a blatant slap in the face!
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
or did he give him some looks as a RB late in the season because the NFL guys won't look at him as a LB but might as a RB? Bash JJ all you want but the guy is well respected in NFL circles and we've had plenty of guys get looks BECAUSE of JJ. Look at what he did a couple of years ago with Taylor Thompson...played some TE late in his senior season and that's where he is in the NFL. Like Griese said today...he's telling NFL guys they need to take a hard look at Gilbert (when many had soured on him after a disappointing time at Texas)
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
pretty sure they mean the same

http://rivals.yahoo.com/smu/football/recruiting/player-Davon-Moreland-106438 I can't remember why he didn't work out. He might be a good example.
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiatNot sure why you don't think the administration has not been supportive They changed admission requirements, renovated the weight room. Moved lights, gave his staff raises at his request - twice. They have done virtually everything he has asked. It has been a team effort.
Meanwhile he has worn leis to our games, forced really bad Hawaiian singers on us, shuned all school traditions (and colors) added two stupid horses to the sidelines, whined about everything, and blown off his primary responsibility as a college coach - to recruit. Oh, and there is also that little thing about being the highest paid non BCS coach for most of that period. We have done well with him being here, but so has he. Time for the next chapter. Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
He never enrolled anywhere because he did not pass the NCAA clearinghouse. That was not on SMU's stringent requirements. That was the NCAA's requirements. If you look at Frazier you will see that if they pass clearinghouse that they are okay with SMU. #HammerDown
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiatDavon Moreland never met NCAA requirements and never played anywhere at the D-1 level.
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
And would have broken ground on an IPF(a coule of ears ago) but JJ said that he did like the location of it since it was going to be put across the street. #HammerDown
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiatI have a serious question about this. I have never in my life heard about any business offer that doesn't have some sort of expiration. I am blown away (and this is the second time) that SMU has given an open ended offer. I have heard of coaches not wanting to negotiate or discuss their contract situation with their school/team during the season, but never just put their offer in the pocket for 6 months (twice). Every job offer I have ever gotten needed a response with 72 hours. I don't know why SMU allows this to happen. Demanding a somewhat timely answer is not unreasonable.
Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
Wrong he didn't qualify under NCAA rules as a high school Senior, then he failed to qualify under NCAA rules the next season either even after taking a year at Community College to improve his SAT. He hasn't been spotted as far as I know at any JUCO either. He didn't qualify Last edited by Stallion on Sat Dec 07, 2013 4:48 pm, edited 1 time in total.
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiatYou have all convinced me I was wrong. I am now going to buy a bottle of Jack and go rent Born In June...
Re: JJ said he had leverage against SMU on contract negotiat
Bingo. We have a new coach already. It's a moot point to discuss. Focus on the IPF because the new coach will make it a requirement.
