Shakiel Randolph

Postby RE Tycoon » Sat Dec 07, 2013 7:26 pm

Noticed him today on the sideline and his arms hang down to his knees! Wouldn't mind if he tried to play bball, might have the biggest wingspan on the team. I know we don't lack depth currently, but Larry says he likes his players long, and Shakiel is certainly that. From his fball bio:

Height / Weight:
6-5 / 201

A two-year basketball letterwinner and three-year track letterman... Three-time Regional qualifier in the triple jump and 2011 UIL State Bronze Medalist in the triple jump.

Probably quit anyway. . . Big difference between the way Larry Brown coaches, and the way June Jones coaches

Dont sneer, some very big programs have occassionally used guys who played both sports, North Carolina is one that leaps to mind. If a guy is that kind of athlete, and can help your program, why would you turn up your nose at him. I'm not saying that Randolph is that guy, dont know anything about him, but I'm curious about your statement and where exactly you think this program is?

This program is past pulling guys off the football team. That is not what top 20 basketball teams do. Waste of time for all involved.

Oh. Thats too bad. Makes you wonder how Washington U. made the Sweet Sixteen when they had to use a defensive back from the football team as their point guard. No one mentioned to them that top-20 basketball teams dont do that. They should have bypassed Nate Robinson, he obviously held them back.

Syracuse must not have been ranked when Donovan McNabb played for their basketball team.

And I guess it was my imagination when I watched Julius Peppers playing in the Final Four for UNC. Must have beeen a mirage.

If it feels like I'm giving you hard time its only because you gave me such a golden opportunity. SMU is a top-20 team now, and top-20 teams dont do that? Like its a country club with rules? Climb down on your high mustang for a minute, the air is obviously a bit too thin up there.

In truth,I'd love a 6'6 250 plus kid, a physical banger that eats the glass.

As long as he's on a football scholarship, bring him on.

Do you remember a kid at Northern Iowa named Lucas O'rear, he was playing for them the year they upset Kansas in the Sweet Sixteen. He was built just like that, he was their physical banger and their emotional leader. The year after that UNI seemed to pick up where they left off, but then nosedived after O'Rear broke his ankle. I mention him because he was a 2 sport guy, he pitches for the Cincinnati Reds organization, now.

Balatro -

it is a long distance between any of the examples you used and pulling some guy off the SMU football team that hasn't been playing and was a decent athlete but not a primary basketball guy. i would be disappointed if that kind of athlete could help us at this point - and fact is he couldn't. No need to waste everyone's time.
