He did not get fired because he paid too much for Coach Brown. About 3 boosters took on Coach Brown's salary which is what they were going to offer Buzz Peterson. Orsini got fired for telling a booster that certain things were not good regarding the school in regards to academic support.

Or Orsini got fired because he mouthed off to Turner...or turned the hoops search in to a national embarrassment...or had to be ordered to return Larry Brown's calls...or basically didn't know a thing about college hoops...or turned the football coaching search in to a national embarrassment...or had almost every single non-revenue hire suck...or couldn't negotiate a contract to save his life...or couldn't play well with others...
