Why can't SMU ever surprise a highly favored team?

Help my memory. Wasn't Jones also considering the Duke job when he left Hawaii. Seems he had said he wanted either Duke or SMU if he was going to leave. Poor Duke got stuck with Cutcliff.

Must be prerecorded message about "Peach Bowl" sellouts because this game was not a sellout was it-I saw several areas of empty seats I though

By heavily favored I mean 21+ points against a much better program.
