Re: ChantsI was in section 110 or behind the basket where Uconn was shooting in the first half. There weren't many students behind me but there was a good amount of sae's to my right and every time I tried to start any kind of chant they wouldn't pick it up. Not tooting my own horn as the majority of my chants were d-fense and oooooo in the first half and S-m-u in the second half; but the majority of my section, the closest to the court, wouldn't pick it up. I heard them in the rafters before I heard the people next to me most of the time. The mob was good but they weren't starting chants either. It was the cheerleaders on the other side of the court by the band and the people getting rowdy on the second level who were holding down the noise-making.
The students that this school attracts just don't start chants, idk what it is. I honestly think it will take a school-wide event or SOMETHING to give the student body some confidence in the sports program or at least some sort of creative-uniqueness to get out of their g.d-selves. Good win nonetheless and thank you to all those who came out and helped the student body out. On a personal level, I appreciate it. It was loud as hell in there today. And more fun than any Smu game I've ever been to in my three years here. Cheers.
Re: Chantswatching from TV the best chant I heard was "Larry Brown, Larry Brown" with the fans acknowledging who was responsible for the long awaited improvement to SMU basketball.
I did hear 'Defenses" and 'S-M-U' as well. I like to see the students do that jumping up and down thing like Duke and other big basketball schools students do.
Re: Chantswe are going to have to get over the "I'm too cool for that" issues that our students have.
Re: ChantsThe "eeeeee" I heard a few times throughout the game was "Keeeeeeith", right? Seemed to coincide most times with him scoring or coming in the game.
Re: Chants
Correct. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Chants
Good luck with that...
Re: Chants
I think the students did a very good job. Even some of us older folks did good. #HammerDown
Re: Chantsplus the students are still on vacation Derail the Frogs!
Re: ChantsThe Mob needs to hand out chants that they will start at certain times during the game.
When the students - 1000 strong - start a chant then the rest of the fans will follow along. The Mob is the only group that can get organized, pass out printed copies of what to chant when, and stay on the same page. That's the way it is done at Cameron and other BB arenas. Makes it fun for the old folks to jump in and feel young again! Pony 81
Re: Chants
Yup.
Re: ChantsSMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Chants
Agree, kudos to the student section. #HammerDown
Re: ChantsI think we should be happy with the way everyone actually got off their feet and made noise in the second half. First half was a little quiet and reserved. But SMU fans getting loud and crazy doesn't happen very often, so lets be happy with that and then worry about the right chants
![]() All of that said, "Come on you Stangs" would sound awesome in there, better than "When the stangs go marching in", IMHO. But I was at the game when they lost 5-0 to Liverpool and AVB got fired, so it would bring back bad memories. I'd also like to take a page out of the San Antonio Spurs book and do a "Go Stangs Go" beat.
