Hard to argue with the results on the field and court. Basketball is trending up and football is trending down.

One year, one game really, does not a trend make. We're still plateaued in the region of moderate respectability after a really nice ride out of two decade long, worm filled gutter.

The SEC is going to eventually expand.

The thing is they are probably not going to take a school from a state they already have in their footprint to help expand the reach of the new SEC Network.

UNC/UVA are their targets with VaTech and NC State as the backups. They may be willing to take Duke if it means they get UNC.

IF A&M isn't enough to get the SECN on all the major Texas cable/satellite carriers (specifically the DFW ones), and IF Arkansas/LSU/Alabama want a chance to get more Texas influence for recruiting, and IF A&M decides it's also in their best interest to let another Texas school in the SEC, and IF ESPN thinks a school from DFW will get DFW tv providers on board, and IF the SEC really has no shot at poaching ACC schools or an OU/Kansas combo from the Big 12.... then SMU might have an outside shot at getting into the SEC. :mrgreen:

Of course back to reality, the SEC expansion is going to be in states they aren't already in. They won't take FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, etc unless for whatever reason they decide to get defensive to block Big 10 expansion further south. So that leads right back to UNC, NC State, Duke, UVA, and Va Tech.

Smu has zero chance of being in the SEC. Like 0.000% chance. I'd say our chances are less than those of UNT.

We don't have any share of the dfw market. We are probably the 10th+ most popular team in the area.

This has always been the pipe dream, ever since that fateful thread on here in the Fall of 2011. I think theres about a .0003% chance of it ever happening in real life. The ability to sell Dallas is the only thread we're hanging by- give Bama, LSU, Arkansas, etc more games in Dallas. I see LSU and Alabama ads around Dallas often- they want exposure here, understandably, as it's such a booming area. Of course, Arkansas plays here every year at Jerrryworld anyways and Bama and LSU have both played at Jerryworld in recent years. I don't know what incentive A&M would have to let us in, other than to further encroach on the Big 12's superiority in the state. I think there's enough Bama, Arky, and LSU grads along with A&M people in DFW to pressure local cable providers into picking up the SECN, and even if not, I'm not sure how much more adding SMU would help. Again, it's a pipe dream that will never happen.

But, I'd be interested to know what "feelers" were put out back in 2011 that EJ and the admins here both picked up on. I'd hope we offered to immediately expand Ford to 45K, build an IPF, and play games at Cotton Bowl/Jerryworld. Basically whatever the SEC wanted, and then some.

We blow UNT and Houston out, beat TCU and Cincy by 3 points at Ford, only lose to BU, Aggy, and at UCF and ECU.

Man, you seem like an enthusiastic enough fan, but your posts are so off base they are hard to read. My wife has more informed opinions about smu football, and it's not even close.
