TTU QB Michael Brewer to Transfer (Graduate Transfer)

Postby PonyKai » Wed Jan 15, 2014 2:21 pm

@BFeldmanCBS 1h #TexasTech QB Michael Brewer has announced he'll transfer after the spring. Will graduate in May & be eligible in 2014.

Hey, June...pick up the phone...an immediately eligible senior QB to add depth to a position sorely lacking it.

This guy also played at Lake Travis. I'm sure GG can put in a good word. Brewer should have 2 more years of eligibility left.

I suppose it couldnt hurt to bring him in, but I'd like to see a young QB like Burcham take the reins and be the guy for the next 3 years

I think Brewer goes somwehre that he can start for sure and not simply be a backup to add depth.

We need Burcham to start next year. June hasn't had a quarterback for more than 2 seasons and this may be the first true quarterback from the JJ era since the others weren't really his QBs...(Bo Levi, Kyle Padron, JJ MCDermott, GG)

lol at thinking Bo Levi and Kyle Padron weren't JJ's quarterbacks. I guess Stephen "First Round" Kaiser isn't his either?

JJ's Recruited QBs at SMU:
1.) Bo Levi Mitchell
2.) Braden Smith
3.) Kyle Padron
4.) Connor Preston
5.) Neal Burcham
6.) Kolney Cassel

Transfers:
1.) JJ McDermott
2.) Garret Gilbert

Given June's track record in developing QBs at SMU and transfers that come in, he ought to be on the phone right now.

Ok - this post is the final straw in my finally ignoring everything you post from this point forward.

Every QB you listed was recruited to SMU by June Jones. Heck, he ran off one of our most highly-rated QBs (Justin Willis) in recent memory in order to bring in Bo Levi, who followed JJ to SMU after originally committing to Hawaii. Padron was a JJ recruit from Southlake Carrol, even after getting injured and missing most of his senior year.

A little research goes a long way.

Ok my bad. My knowledge of SMU football is from 2011-2014...and I just repeated what most people have said about those quarterbacks.

I think Braden Smith was a freshman in Bennet's last year.

(edit) Whoops, nope he was a 2008 Freshman. But I wouldn't go so far as to say he was one of "June's guys" He'd committed to Bennet in the spring of '07, and was kept on after June took over.

The idea that you don't recruit Brewer because of Burchum is dumb. The idea is to recruit 4-5 quality QBs and let them fight it out. This is basic program building stuff and yet you hear it over and over on this board. You recruit 85 players not next year's starting lineup. I don't see a definite quality QB on our entire roster. I see a lot of driftwood that needs to be cleared out.

Sure, I'd take him, whether it's as a starter or backup. But do we have any space left? Even with attrition, we have to be close to full, aren't we?
