Marketing Idea: SMU is "Dallas's Team"

Why doesn't SMU start marketing themselves as "Dallas's Team"? (Basketball, Football) People in the state of Texas and nationally can and will then associate SMU with Dallas. Some of the best ideas are the most obvious and easiest to implement. Thoughts?

You know this was our motto that was plastered all over (parts of) Dallas and online no more than two years ago?

A campaign is only as good as the effort put into the followup behind it... the campaign idea was, in m opinion, a good one.

The problem was that it seemed like there was a token nod to "Dallas" with the implied "but only if you're rich" tacked onto it.

it was better than the soiree thing they tried to market. It would have been a solid campaign for the Polo club team

Believe me, when I saw that particular ad I wanted to kick someone in the head.

The really sad thing is that I can't figure out whether our administrators that sign off on these things are just clueless or if they really just don't want the "peasant folk" on our campus.

No, I did not know that we have tried to market SMU as "Dallas's Team" a few years ago. I have not lived in Dallas for a number of years now. A lot has changed. For one, we did not have a winning program two years ago.

We all know that timing is important. SMU has a winning basketball program now. Winning brings media attention. Media attention brings fans. We have a great Basketball Stadium and Football Stadium. Both stadiums on campus. Market SMU as "Dallas's Team" and local fans could attend more games. Brand SMU as Dallas's Team! Yes Moody has sold out a few games this season. That is great news! I always like to hear the TV Media pre-games when they say something like "We are live in Dallas, TX where the SMU Mustangs host Whoever in Moody Collesium" We already are "Dallas's Team", we just do not market SMU as Dallas's Team. Never made sense to me. When you think of Fort Worth, you think of TCU. When you think of other cities you think of their schools.

We finally have a winning product at SMU. Now is the time we need to re-visit SMU being "Dallas's Team"!

I like the idea a ton actually. Believe it or not, but most people outside Texas have no idea where SMU is....not even kidding. Truthfully, I didn't for a long time either when I was younger

The campaign to promote SMU as "Dallas' Team" has been around for the past few years. Anyone associated with SMU (alum/student) not living under a rock should know that. It has been on schedule posters, in ads and on websites. btw, I'm not referring to you OBF. This season I haven't noticed it as much, if at all.

In theory, it's a great idea but SMU can't just simply say it or print it and expect it to happen. The University as a whole has to buy into it and they haven't. TCU did this about ten years ago and now they truly are Ft Worth's team. If you go to FW, you will see TCU propaganda and people wearing TCU gear all over the city, not just within a 3-mile radius of the campus. USC with LA is the same way. Bottom line is this is not a new idea to SMU.
