I've got 2 things to get off my chest

Postby Hoop Fan » Sat Sep 03, 2005 10:49 pm

The decision to go for it on 4th and 4 from midfield with a minute and a half left in the first half was mind boggling. 4th and 1, maybe and then its still highly questionable. Mosely was chewing up yards and there was no reason to give them easy points. I thought that really hurt us.

Second thing is that Eckert cant be our qb. He's not mobile enough to play behind this line or tall enough. He also looks like he lacked poise and confidence. Sorry, thats the truth. That gameplan was perfect for Phillips. I said I'd come to the first game with an open mind and I did, but you cant tell me Phillips wouldnt have had an impact. We've seen him do it before two years ago as a freshman.

Unbelievably bad call by Bennett. I'm sorry but he has put his job on the line with the QB decision and calls like the 4th down and I thought it was 7.

We owned BU in the 1st half until that last 1st half series.

Kicking them another 40 yards probably keeps the score 7-3 & the momentum on our side.

Instead they get fired up & we faced a completely different BU team in the 3rd Q. It wasn't the 'sole' game changing play, but we have to play the odds when we're in the game as we were at that time.

I will rate that Call as the worst right alongisde the decision to leabe Eckert in after the fumble recovery inside the Baylor 20.

The going for two decision in the Tulsa game last year shook my faith in Bennett to the core. Bennett has now reinforced that feeling with his ist game calls.

Agreed, and I don't understand putting Eckert back in with 8min left after sitting him most of the 2nd and 3rd quarter. He's cold as ice. Then, after he shows he is cold as ice with a 3 and out, we magically get the ball inside the 15 yard line on the punt...and he STILL puts him back in instead of just going back to Romo on the short yardage situation.

[deleted] poor coaching.

Agreed. That Tulsa game rocked me hard. Why oh why go for 2 when you don't have to. IT's just gambling.

And yes, Franchione made the correct call NOT going for 2 with 9 min left in the game. There's too much game to be played...Clemson could have scored 7 (or 8) and then Fran would have been down by 8 or 9 pts...

"I know more about football than all of you guys put together..."

Didn't Bennett say something like this at a press conference last year?

Actually, I think it was something to the effect that he's forgotten more football than most of you will ever know. Apparently, he's forgotten that you don't go for it on 4th down and 4 in the 1st frickin half.

Well I was at the Baylor game and here are my impressions (I realize they are late, but I have been busy and I do want to post them)

Arrived 5 minutes before kickoff. Disappointed with the crowd. A whole section in NE endzone was virtually empty. I thought "when we play Ark State we will be lucky to draw 10,000 fans"....sad

Don't know what Bennett saw in Eckert during the spring and summer, but he sure gave him an early hook....questionable coaching evaluation IMO.

The early blocked punt and field goal were a repeat of the last Baylor game and reflect poor coaching...

The Baylor band tatics were mickey mouse and should have been stopped by Bennett. On one play in particular the band played through the beginning of the play. Another example of bad coaching by Bennett. He should know the rules.

Going for it on 4th down at end of first half....pretty stupid. All the fans around me were complaining BEFORE the play failed.

Sticking with Eckert after the fumbled punt....STUPID!!!! once again, fans around me were all complaining before Eckert failed.

I looked closely at Chris Phillips all during the game. Body language was not good. Had he been healthy and not in the Bennett doghouse (is he in it???)...we would have won this game.

David Allison looks like a keeper.

Before the final drive, how many passes were thrown for over 15 yards...not a good sign.

While Baylor is a crummy team, they could have played better than they did.

Some of you sunshiners are rapidly losing credibility on this board when you rah-rah us all summer long, then tell us the sky is falling when we lose a game by 5 points that we are expected to lose it by 1.5
