National Godfather Pub

Since Harry likes consolidated threads, in which I agree, I thought I would try to start one for all the publicity SMU basketball and Larry Brown now getting. Hopefully it will catch on and we will be posting National Coach of the year articles up soon.

During the coaching search I saved a google alert for SMU Basketball Coach and left it on after we hired Larry Brown. I was constantly surprised at the number and location of the articles it produced. Now that we have been on this streak, the articles are coming fast and furiously.

This is from twitter and a good one from the NY Post. Some good quotes from Reggie Miller.

Retirement not an option for SMU coach Larry Brown

“I heard Coach Brown say he wants to coach until he dies,” Lynch said. “They’re going to have to put him in the grave coaching basketball. …

Haha I actually really hope this does not happen. This would be devastating to SMU. Almost like JoePa at Penn State.

I agree that it would be devastating. Not totally on board that this would be almost like JoePa at Penn State. Guys would have fallen over themselves to coach at Penn State after JoePa passed, if it weren't for a teeny tiny scandal that happened on his watch. If Jank were to leave before Larry, I think we'd see a lot of interest from good coaches whenever Larry leaves.

Well I meant similar to Penn St. in the sense of campus-wide mourning. The scandal definitely blemished JoePa's image and all ending with the removal of his statue.

Hopefully SMU can remain scandal-free for once.

From the Daily Journal - cover what appears to be suburbs of Indianapolis:

Mostly a rehash, but some good quotes and perspective:

I still like Joe Pa and PSU fan base is the absolute worst. Anyone that has ever been to Happy Valley knows exactly what I'm talking about. Absolute a$$holes to the max.

As for the thread, great idea, so sick of a new thread for each article when there's 100s of them written a day. Can only reiterate the same stuff so many times.

PonyScot found this one. Has some really good stuff on the behind the scenes on the coaching search and hiring of LB.

Larry Brown has done it again, turning backwater SMU into a ranked dynamo in a mere two seasons
