Gee with all those great plasyers I'm surprised SMU didn't go to a Super Bowl. How ddid we only win about 25% of the games we played with those STUDS. Here's a flash for you many-no THE VAST MAJORITY- of those players on that list were not quality Division 1A players on a bowl caliber football team.
Alright to get back to the original intent of this thread...ThadFilms is right.
We played very well for the first three quarters and had somethings go our way and some not. Despite our anemic offense, the game turned when our DL got tired and Baylor could essentially stroll down the field behind their 300+ pound offensive line in the fourth quarter. I am not ready to give up on this team just yet, there were flashes there that were exciting! Despite the heartbreak at the end, it was one of the first games in a long time (including wins last year) that I have actually enjoyed watching. Final anaylsis is that Bus sings the right tune...we need more big boys on the DL.
How 'bout we see some real improvement this Saturday? ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Not true. In the first three quarters we had mulitple kicks blocked, multiple fumbles in critical situations and general ineptitude. In fact, as I was keeping track, SMU was leading Baylor at halftime by a count of 7 inept plays to 5. I got tired of counting, but I assume we lost in that department in the second half as well.
We usually finish strong with ineptitude so I would doubt that we lost that category!!!
What people prefer is a winner, and jtstang is correct in stating that basketball is the best chance we have at producing one. The BCS has forever changed football, and the small private schools don't stand a chance.
Well, clearly TCU is the exception. SMU is the rule. Stallion, this ship has been listing for 16 years and every small step forward in trying to fix it has been met with giant leaps backwards in terms of results on the field. Like it or not, BCS has had an effect. But the real reason SMU football cannot be fixed, as you know, is because the people in power do not care to fix it. Until they change their tune, basketball is our only snowball's chance for a successful "revenue" sport.
Yeah... anybody can have a bad couple decades. Right? ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
And it is by divine inspiration that you think they care to fix Basketball? Bball hardly rates a "snowballs chance" when we can't even get the facilities upgraded while the campus around Moody is going through a building frenzy. Neither of our revenue sports is given much thought by those who actually can make a difference.
TCU had a big win on Saturday, and they have enjoyed some very nice success the past few years. I wish SMU football were doing the same, but my original point was about small non BCS private schools and their place in the big picture. TCU would be another Baylor in the Big 12. Baylor had big win over the Aggies last year, but I don't expect to see them in the Big 12 championship game. I hope SMU has a winning season in the near future and gets to play in the Ft. Worth Bowl if it still exists, but my hope for success lies in hoops.
