Myles Turner-SMUModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Myles Turner-SMUMyles Turner is so obsessed with SMU that he briefly considered transferring to Grapevine for his senior year so that he could be an MFFL (Mustang Forward For Life), but then he realized it would throw off his plan to #shocktheworld by declaring for SMU at the McDonald's AA game, so he stayed put for his senior year.
Alternate theory: Myles Turner hasn't declared yet because he is going to take a "bridge year" between high school and college to help orphans in the Central African Republic so that he can enroll at SMU as part of our monster 2015 class.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
Yep. Pretty much. All this started way back when Hoopmanx I think very respectfully exposed a gap in Stallion's knowledge on basketball. Stallion came out firing, as is typical, and calling people names -- as if that wins you arguments. It's kind of sad, really. But, at the end of the day, I do enjoy his contributions and believe there's a snuggly little fellow way down in there somewhere.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
I'll bet you'd get a much different answer if we poll the players. Want to make a bet? I can't even believe you're arguing this.[/quote] No one cares is admittedly a stretch but the extent to which players and coaches do is greatly aggregated and tremendously pales in comparison to tournament success. Every very good program in the country would rather get bounced in the first rd of the conf tourney and make it to the second weekend of the dance than win the conf tourney and get bounced on day one from the ncaa. Re: Myles Turner-SMUHoopmanx saying, "Eat a turd". Very mature. Keep up the good work. Way to keep it classy. Well, thanks for opening up and telling recruiting stories and "in home" visits with supporting facts. Much better approach then "I know something that you don't know, but I can't tell you." Appreciated.
No need for you to insinuate that SMU is recruiting "dirty". Mentioning this on a public message board is flat out ignorant, especially if you are indeed an SMU Alum. Talk about other schools, have some smarts. You still having a problem with the term "gangsta" thinking that this is referring to anything other than Capone is flat out ignorant. Giving family member's scholarships is a regular occurrence in football and basketball. No news there. No need for you to continue to talk down to fellow SMU Alums as if we do not know anything about recruiting or basketball. We have a very educated fanbase. We just have never had a basketball team to get excited about until now. See this thread along with other posts within the past week. Fact is that many on this board probably know more than you. That may be hard for you to believe. My guess is that many on this board have been following recruiting much longer than you have. Nobody likes a self-claimed know it all who believes in tough love, especially when no tough love is needed. Shows insecurity. I echo Billy Joe's post here. Not that it matters, but you did say that SMU was never in it for Myles Turner less than a few weeks ago. Now you have changed your opinion. I am not going to take the time right now to look up your previous posts. All I am asking for is consistency from you. Thank you for coming in today Hoopmanx.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
We didn't defend the Doherty hire. We said, correctly, at the time, it was stupid to fire him because of contractual obligations, SMU running through hoops coaches faster than running shoes, and public declarations from the AD that Doherty had and needed a certain amount of time, more than he had at the time this discussion arose, to rebuild the program. Tough to argue about new things when we have to re-argue revisionist history crap.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
No offense but you can follow recruiting on boards and services all day long, but until you've lived the process or been recruited yourself, you don't get half the picture of what really goes on. AAU ball is the key in basketball to the inner-workings of recruitment and it's hardly mentioned on Rivals, Scout, or 247 or whatever other service you follow outside of what AAU squad a kid plays for. When you've played on the AAU circuit or have been a part of an AAU organization/tournament, you just know more simply because you're around what's happening. No different than me speculating on Apple is developing when I have no idea what's actually going on in the R&D development. I'm sure the guys in the R&D program have a good idea of what is coming out though even if they aren't working on the project. Me on the other hand, I get the press releases and what the company tells me. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's the best analogy I can come up with. To think SMU basketball recruiting is completely clean, even with Brown, is borderline asinine. If everyone on the highway is doing 70, you better be doing 70 to keep up. I'm not saying the recruiting is or isn't clean but it would be foolish to think that nothing goes on behind the scenes at any program whether it's a private high school recruiting a Dallas city kid to a community college to a top-flight program like Kansas. As I said, I'm unfamiliar with much of the individual stuff recruiting experience at SMU under Brown, but I get enough tidbits from people inside the program in the Ops there to have a clue what's going on. I linked a video the other day of Jalen Rose telling you what it's like an OV, 100% true even today. I'd argue worse today than what he describes. As long as you're not breaking the major rules, it's a null point. I'm sure SMU self-reported somewhere between 20-50 secondary recruiting violations in the past year, you can look it up, I don't have the time. And I'm sure there's more than one that is with the men's basketball program.
Re: Myles Turner-SMUOBF, good analogies (Apple and Highway Driving). Agreed. Much appreciated. Always value your opinions. Our educated fanbase fully understands that AAU influences college basketball and the fact that if everyone else is traveling 70mph we must travel at least 70mph. We are all traveling down the same highway (at different speeds). Before this year we were traveling on a dirt road at 10mph with no direction and no true destination.
Re: Myles Turner-SMUI think it is time for a "hoopmanx vs. Stallion: Pick your side" thread. This battle is worthy of it's own thread.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
The insinuation was that the entire recruiting process is "dirty" for all schools, in the sense that recruitment operates in a morally dubious realm that is currently within recruiting guidelines. I imagine that NCAA enforcement doesn't need X's posts to figure that out. I don't think it takes someone with a language degree to point out that "gangsta" has a different connotation than "gangster". Maybe the original intent was closer to the latter, but the former doesn't refer to Capone considering the source for dropping "er" for "a" is embedded in hip hop. I don't have the willpower to respond to the rest of your condescension other than to say pot, meet kettle. Instead I'll change topics: Who Was Your Favorite Player in the UConn Game? (please answer in the form of multiple, worthless polls)
Re: Myles Turner-SMUWho on this board was defending Doherty in 2011-12 besides that moron Travis Bickle?

Re: Myles Turner-SMUKatinka, thought you might like to know... you're boy hoopmanx is rolling... it's a walk off
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
People weren't defending Doherty. People were arguing that it's stupid for SMU to fire Doherty when he had contractual leverage, and an AD that had given Doherty a public, explicit window that was needed to rebuild the program, and moving to their fourth coach in six years.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
You: Prove that you know how recruiting works! X: [Describes how recruiting process generally works] You: HOW COULD YOU DESCRIBE THIS HERE! WE'LL GET SUSPENDED! OBF: No really, this is well established. This goes on behind the scenes everywhere. You: Oh yeah, I totally knew that already. For realsies, guys. Everyone understands that your delicate feathers have been ruffled by X's tone. But you're not impressing anyone with your "knowledge" or the lecturing.
Re: Myles Turner-SMU
Doh was at SMU for six years. The contract Orsini gave him was stupid, but we were all drunk on Orsini Kool-Aid at the time (or maybe that was just me) 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
