I heard some time ago June was trying to get out of it, Briles was also interested, and Turner nixed it.

lower than what? you think we have respect right now in football? June knows he has to start off at least decent to have a shot at staying in his overpriced contract. personally I think we have a very good shot of laying an egg in Denton - which would seal this deal.

At this point we are totally unprepared for that game so I am ok with nixing it. That is the sad reality of SMU football.

Why would Briles want out of this game? He gets to blow out a former SWC foe to open up his new stadium, much to the delight of his fanbase.

Because only SMU "fans" think we suck. Everybody else respects a June Jones led team.

Right, Turner is the one doesn't deserve respect. It's Turner's fault.

Only in your imagination and in press fluff-talk...our simple offensive sets, five-play, non hurry-up, no proven QB, no running game offense paired with our non-able, statistically horrible secondary isn't going to have anyone quaking in the boots. If calling a spade "a spade" makes me a "fan," then so be it. He got himself in this mess.

Apparently June thinks SMU sucks as well if he is trying to back out of the game.

That's not true at all. I'm not defending backing down from Baylor, but if I were OU I wouldn't want to go in there and play Baylor to open their new stadium. That atmosphere is going to be crazy. See Kansas at SMU to open Ford. See UConn to open Moody.

What was the excuse for backing out last year?

ponyboy I agree with you more than some of the folks on here, but you cant defend this chicken [deleted] June Jones stuff every season. In year 7 of the Jones era we should be able to compete with Baylor and TCU
