I was going to disagree with you, but you're right except for Fran's first year in 1998. We were even with TCU in recruiting in '97 and '98 and shared the best non-BCS recruiting classes between us. Malin happened and we fell off the face of the earth.
That can't be true can it? If that's the case, and you extrapolate the '98 "best non-bcs" class to '03, it seems we should have gone better than 0-12 in '03.
Except that most of those guys pobably didn't redshirt.
Yes, but I bet Fran had to play a lot of guys right away too, inheriting a 1-10 team.

these people are all blowing smoke
If Fran comes in and SMU starts winning some games
these high horse people will be back
they sat through 1-11
and would bail on smu winning again
because Fran is the coach?
YEAH RIGHT!

i think there is a high possibility that fran is our next coach but wouldn't you think that he would take a year off to get himself together before jumping back into coaching so fast. isnt that a bit much.

You know, you are probably right. The more I've thought about it, the more I've realized that I have watched them go winless for the season and still cheered for them. I'll continue to support the teams, even if I think the coaches suck. Will they be handing out red and blue clothespins when they announce Fran as the head coach?

The other day some former standout TCU players that played for Fran told me that we should hire Fran.

FWMustangGirl....LOL....I hope not.
Hey Fran is not my first choice either.
But if he gets us farther down the path to where we want to be
Well.....I say I will support him and the Mustangs.
Glad to hear you will too.
Watch Orsini hire someone that surprises us all!

Not TCU. The frogs I've spoken to think it would be hilarious if we got stuck with Fran.
Would that be the same group of people who called him a traitor and despised him for leaving TCU for the Bama job? We are now to believe all that anger was because they thought he was a "loser"? You make it sound as if they were glad to see him go. TCU folks are just like the Bama folks...they have become obsessed in the hope Fran will fail...because they are all acting like the proverbial "woman scorned". What a nightmare for those same TCU folks if Fran was to come to SMU and the Ponies started kicking froggie arses again. It could definitely revive this rivalry...although my guess is that Patterson and Fran may be friends and would not fan the flames.
Although I was disappointed, my problem with Fran wasn't that he left TCU - he wore a crimson red tie to the Heisman ceremony where he was supposed to be supporting LT....the guy who basically landed him the Bama job. Then he turns and runs out of Bama without talking to the players. That should tell you all you need to know about his character.

Seemed nobody wanted to take me serious since I had never posted. Well, I wasnt trying to waste your time or my own. I dont have enough time to get on here for the hell of it. I was trying to be helpful. Just fyi, I was told it could be done headed into this weekend. They are going to allow Nutt to announce he is taking the Ole Miss job and then we will follow with the Franchione announcement.
This guy is starting to look pretty credible.

mrydel wrote:I have never liked Fran as a person just from his appearance, no other reason. But he would be an outstanding hire in my opinion. He would be someone that I think could not only move us up a grade or two in recruiting, but also have a staff in place that would allow us to hopefully progress next year instead of going through the typical 5 years of rebuilding. He did it at TCU and he was a success at Alabama, and by golly if he takes us to 10-3 and then wants to walk out on us, I would thank him for the work he did and look forward to the next hire. Bring him on if he is to be the one.

I'm in agreement, mrydel. Don't care much for him, but he has had some successes.
But what I really want to know is will the Fran "Insider Newsletter" be included with your Mustang Club membership and de-coder ring next season?
