NCAA rules specify that to grant a sixth year, an athlete has to have lost two seasons for reasons out of the control of him/her.
I don't think choosing to transfer schools and having to sit out a year is reasons outside of GIlbert's control. So no sixth year for Gilbert and only one year to play here.
2013 will be post KP, and Printz's freshman year. Would be nice to be able to redshirt Printz and have a good QB to step in just for one year. Have not heard much about the guys we have sitting on the bench. GG will have a year to learn, get a great degree, and we will a QB to fill in for a year. Upside is well worth it.

So let's say Gilbert doesn't get a medical hardship. Does he not then come to SMU? Or is it that he needs to get that decided before being officially allowed to transfer, but will come here no matter what?
Then we've got him for two years. Padron starts next year. Gilbert the two after that. And then Printz the next four (hopefully! because we redshirt him and frigging don't burn it for any reason!)
