When JJ was comfortable with Colt Brennan's knowledge of the offense, he had Hawaii run a no-huddle offense. That meant *no* QB running to the sideline and no ability for the defense to substitute when they were tired or had a personnel mismatch. Going no-huddle and having the RB motion out to be a 5th WR was a nice way to cause confusion by the D.
None of the SMU QBs to this point has had the comfort level in the offense to skip the between-play conference with JJ apparently. BLM definitely didn't have enough experience in the offense. Padron hadn't been a starting QB for very long in high school. McDermott started for less than a season on offense. So, I'm not surprised that SMU hasn't used that part of the offense yet...but it was very effective in Hawaii when it was used.

I am so excited about June Jone's choice of Jason Phillips. I've been hoping for this...Having Coach Phillips on staff with June Jones (and an already sound group of coaches) = OFFENSIVE HEAVEN!!! Any athlete at any offensive position should have an interest in this program. Moreover, I say Coach Jones can handle where the coaches are placed, i.e., rb, wr,qb.
I do have a question...I assume there is a limit to the number of coaches on a staff. However, I do not know for sure there is such a rule nor what the rule is. Nonetheless, I like DUTCH's comment about
Brennan. He "hasn't coached. he could be a GA (like Klemm was for june his first couple years) since he's got NFL money in his pocket."
GREAT JOB JUNE JONES on this STRATEGIC CHOICE OF COACHES!!!

I'm surprised no one's complained about the number of Louisiana commits he has...only one from Texas

JP is a very sociable guy at events too. He mingles with the crowd and shows genuine interest. Good catch for the Ponies and I look forward to his contribution, except vs. UH at Ford this fall.

Does this quote by JP mean that he is not going after some of the high caliber UH commits that we could use at SMU?
"I’ve got great relationships with a lot of the players on this team and I have great relationships with a lot of the recruits that are coming in here that are going to continue the success of this program and I have no intentions of doing anything to harm this program in any way, none."

I hope he knows that not going after UH recruits he knew he could flip would hurt his current employer. Hopefully that statement is just some diplomatic bs to show he doesn't hold a grudge towards UH.

I think he may have looked forward to working with Coach Jones. Obviously, he didn't fit in at A&M as stated above. Moreover, he has past ties with June Jones and clearly he respects him. Seems to me this addition makes 'OFFENSIVE HEAVEN' (I give all copy rights to SMU) right here at SMU and every good WR, TE, RB and QB around the country has to at least think about SMU.
