We need a new HC with a younger, hungrier, more energetic staff.

We are going to be in a dogfight for any top level recruits...it is just the way it is for smaller, lesser known football programs trying to claw their way up (TCU, Boise, etc). Therefore, SMU needs a high- energy, younger guy that wants to prove himself on the recruiting trail in Texas. Klemm was perfect in that role. And many top-level recruits were receptive to SMU because of that energy and the relationships AK had/was building with players, HS coaches, ect.
To hire a guy with little to no recruiting background or ties in Texas is beyond idiotic for SMU at this point in our growth. And we were so close to really becoming that "next-level" program with multiple 4 star recruits and a top 30-40 recruiting class. Guess I can kiss those dreams goodbye.

True, June and his grumpy old men have taken us as far as they can.

High energy and young are not necessarily the same thing. Age doesn't matter if you want to be a high energy recruiter.
This is the off-season of discontent.

Whit- very true- Saban, Miles and Spurrier are good examples. Close to the same age as JJ but miles apart in energy and desire to bring in top level talent.
GO PONIES!!!

Yes, and look at the make up of Saban's, Miles', and Spurrier's staffs. I think one will see a world of difference between those staffs and our staff.

Just a conspiracy thought- and I certainly hope that it is not correct. I wonder if JJ has hired Palcic and is waiting to announce it after signing day. If perhaps JR is leaving then he (JJ) might want to wait until all letters are signed and a couple of the recruits are already enrolled in school. This might be especially important to any recruits that had a special relationship with JR. Just a thought as I have a really weird feeling about this situation.

I have thought the same thing. JR's silence is strange. I hope this is not the case.

At this point, nothing would shock me. Just a few weeks ago, we had a true 5 star qb committed for 2013 and we were on track for a top 35 recruiting class along with a committed coach/staff.
Now, we question JJ's loyalty, Klemm is gone, our Cali recruits are decommitting left and right, and we don't know who is on staff and who isn't. And what is JP up to these days? Would be great to get some insight from pay sites or something. And our best recruiter, JR, has gone silent and we may be hiring some old guy from UCLA?
And our pets heads are falling off.

Naive post on your part NC.
People have been questioning JJ's loyalty / commitment to SMU for awhile. Remember Maryland?, that is just one example, there are many more.
Klemm gone and its repercussions?, we have been discussing this for over 9 months.
Old, out of touch staff? many good threads on that as well going back over a year.
JJ's set in his ways approach? We knew that BEFORE he arrived.
This is NO surprise to me. It was called worse case scenario which in my mind had a 50/50 chance of happening. People like Nick, to his credit, thought it was much more likely. Worse part to me is this man is not going to change, so
SMU has to make the changes needed to compete in today's BCS world.
RIvals Top 70 recruiting class will never cut it. Going after NTSU recruits will never cut it.
