Anyway, Van Alstyne TX childhood home of Buzz Williams is only 45 miles north of SMU on Highway 75 (Central) a little north of McKinney. The greatness of Grayson County. I believe he has family still living there.
At this point Van Alstyne is a suburb of Dallas!

So he's from North Dallas!

I believe Todd Graham has family ties to the Van Alstyne/Elmont/Westminster area.

I think we will end up with a god coach from a mid major realistically IMO.
"With the ammunition of plenty of millionaire boosters, athletic director Steve Orsini can tout his pursuit of Marquette’s rising star before choosing on a more realistic candidate."

Boy I sure hope not. We need a top level coach not some ave. coach from a mid-major. Failing to do so will almost guarantee an embarrassing failure in the BEAST.

You got that all wrong. You need a makes sense coach that can kill Dallas/Houston & win some battles in NJ/NY. Not a disconnected name that the locals are indifferent about. Just so everyone knows, other than Buzz, Jones and Hewitt, local AAU heads despise our list and won't support another lily white splash hire w/no ties to DFW. Let's be smart for a damn change and not hunt for a big press conference

Surely, surely SO knows what you are saying Hoop? I can't imagine him not understanding that we need a coach that can make inroads in the Dallas/Houston goldmine we have in Texas. He has to know it!! I am still partial to Benford and then be very careful with the assts. that are hired. They are almost as important as the HC hire is.

math- agree. Would love to get Benford and then have some good assts with local connections.
IMO I don't think Hewitt is on SO's list and I am not in favor of a sunbelt level coach. I do hope this deal gets done quickly so the new coach can save the players that he wants and perhaps add a few new ones.

Even top programs end up hiring successful mid-major coaches all the time. The point here is that our couch has to be young, energetic, a recruiting machine in Texas, and hopefully more successful in the x's and o's than Doh. I think there are actually quite a pleasant amount of coaches that fit those expectations. (I think..)

I'm gonna be straight w you, red. Smu isn't hiring a black guy w no experience. Especially the asst for a head coach they're likely to miss on. As for hewitt, he was the first guy contacted. Braine hired him at ga tech, and orsini had a great working relationship w him at tech.

hoops- totally respect your opinion. I was under the impression that Hewitt and SO didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things.
