Wow, I gotta admit that while it's no death penalty they absolutely crippled the program today. Seems to me that it's a pretty solid balance between punishing the school while not overly punishing the fans and students.

If the wins are vacated, then so too should all the money Pedophile State made off TV and bowls. Or maybe a $60 million dollar fine will do. The program generates $50 million is profit so $60 million shouldn't be too big a hit. Especially since multi hundreds of millions were generated from 1998-2011. No bowl and a few scholarships should keep Pedophile State in the solid midrange of the Big X. One wonders how fast Pedophile State will appeal this decision?

We need a lawyer for this one, but I don't think they can. Emmert was very clear that this was a consensual agreement. Ped. State signed off on this.

I hate to admit this, but I think the NCAA did about as close to right as possible. Though I have mixed feelings about the NCAA acting on criminal behavior, the fact that the NCAA acted in such a quick and decisive manner is encouraging. Joe Pa enabled heinous crimes to continue without check because he wanted to protect HIS football program and the reputation of that program and the school. It’s a stretch in my book but I can see the logic the NCAA uses to exert authority in placing sanctions.

The players have choices. They can stay and play, stay and good to school or transfer without penalty. Seems to minimize the negative effects on the players.

The fans can continue to go to all home and away games OR watch their team on TV. So the impacts on the fans are minimized.

The fine is about one year’s profit generated by the football program. And it doesn’t force PSU to pay back monies received from all those bowl games and wins and TV revenue during the 1998-2011 spans.

And, though not mentioned but certainly possible, no probation.

I have heard several different interpretations on the scholarship reductions. Does anyone have a clearer reading on this.

The article also said that the Big Ten is going to impose their sanctions against Ped. State today. This day could actually get worse for them. 11 am ET press conference.

psu go off light but the criminal justice system and the big 10 will make up for it.

Any rumors as to what the Big Ten will tack on?

My first thought while I was watching that sham of a college athletic organization announce unprecedented and completely baseless penalties for which they have zero authority to issue, was that Bobby Bowden is the happiest man on earth today...Joe pa is in his rearview forever and no one will catch him while he is alive.
